  1. 6. Adrenoceptors and nerve growth factor. Effects of electro-acupuncture and physical exercise in rats with steroid-induced polycystic ovaries

    Författare :Luigi Manni; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is complex endocrine and metabolic disorder associated with ovulatory dysfunction, follicular cyst and hyperandrogenism. The abnormalities detected in PCOS have been attributed to primary defects in the hypothalamic-pituitary unit, the ovarian microenvironment, the adrenal gland, and the insulin/insulin-like growth factor (IGF)-1 metabolic regulatory system. 2. 7. Nerve Growth Factor and its association to osteoarthritis in the horse

    Författare :Anna Kendall; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Nyckelord :LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Osteoarthritis is common in horses and is a cause of pain and compromised welfare. Osteoarthritis-associated pain in horses is currently diagnosed by subjective and objective measurements of joint pain; however, there is a need to develop methods for evaluation of the systemic osteoarthritic pain that has been recognised in other species. 3. 8. Brain-derived neurotrophic factor in cerebral ischemia: a quantitative study on surviving and newly formed neurons

    Författare :Elin Gustafsson; Lund Klinisk fysiologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; brain-derived neurotrophic factor; cerebral ischemia; neuronal survival; neurogenesis; hippocampus; striatum; immunocytochemistry; stereology; neuropsykologi; Neurologi; neurophysiology; neuropsychology; neurofysiologi; Neurology;

    Sammanfattning : This study explores the role of brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) for neuronal vulnerability and neurogenesis following cerebral ischemia in the rat. Cerebral ischemia results in selective neuronal cell loss in specific brain regions. We here demonstrate the rank order of vulnerability in two regions affected by global forebrain ischemia, i. 4. 9. Biochemical and biophysical aspects of molecular recognition and signalling by neurotrophins

    Författare :Leopold Luna Ilag; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Neurotrophins are members of a family of structurally and functionally related neurotrophic factors that control the development and maintenance of the nervous system. There are currently 5 members which make up this family: nerve growth factor (NGF), brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), neurotrophin-3 (NT-3), neurotrophin-4(NT-4) and neurotrophin-6 (NT-6), which so far is only described in fish. 5. 10. Spinal motoneurones and the bulbospinal serotonininergic system in aged rats with behavioral deficits

    Författare :Hans Johnson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :aging; behavior; immunohistochemistry; in situ hybridisation; motoneuron; CGRP; axotorny; GAP-43; neurotrophin receptors; degeneration; axon dystrophy; 5HT TRH; SP; 5HLkA; AADC; serotonintransporter protein; fluoxetine; L-5-HTP;

    Sammanfattning : The expression of neuropeptides, growth-related proteins and neurotrophin receptors were studied in motoneurons of young adult rats and in aged rats with symptoms of neuromuscular incapacities. Also studied were aging-related changes in the descending serotoninergic (5HT) bulbospinal system which constitutes a major afferent pathway to spinal motoneurons. LÄS MER
