  1. 1. Stromal and tumor cell responses to hypoxia and treatment within the glioma microenvironment

    Författare :Vasiliki Pantazopoulou; Avdelningen för translationell cancerforskning; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cancer; glioblastoma; tumor microenvironment; reactive astrocytes; hypoxia; CD44; p75NTR;

    Sammanfattning : Glioblastoma is the most aggressive primary brain tumor in adults. Despite treatment, tumors invariably recur, and the recurring tumor is resistant to therapies. New approaches are needed for the successful treatment of glioblastoma patients.Tumors are not simply a compilation of molecularly and phenotypically identical neoplastic cells. LÄS MER

  2. 2. On Nogo Signaling Regulation

    Författare :Alexandra Trifunovski; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; Nogo; Nogo receptor; regulation; neurotrophin; Lingo-1; p75NTR; Troy; synaptic plasticity;

    Sammanfattning : As neuronal development enters its final stages, axon growth becomes restricted. This lack of regenerative capacity is partly due to the non-permissive environment of growth inhibitory proteins. Three such proteins, Nogo, OMgp and MAG bind to the same receptor, the Nogo receptor (NgR) and induce growth cone collapse and axon growth inhibition. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Changes in sensory systems during aging : an experimental study in the rat

    Författare :Esbjörn Bergman; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; aging; behavior; primary sensory neuron; dorsal root ganglion; mystacial pad; sensory nerve ending; axon dystrophy; neuropeptides; B4; RT97; CTB; neurotrophins; trk; p75NTR; GFR[alpha]; RET; protein; mRNA;

    Sammanfattning : Aging is associated with sensorimotor disturbances, including increased proprioceptive thresholds. The present study aimed to clarify the occurrence of structural and biochemical alterations in sensory systems of behaviorally characterized aged rats. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Neurotrophic factors and their receptors structure-function relationships and signalling mechanisms

    Författare :Mikael Ryden; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; neurotrophins; nerve growth factor; brain-derived neurotrophic factor; neurotrophin-3; neurotrophin-4; p75 neurotrophin receptor; neuroblastoma; serinethreonine kinase receptors;

    Sammanfattning : Background The development, survival and maintenance of the vertebrate nervous system requires the continous supply of a set of polypeptides termed neurotrophic factors. Among these, the neurotrophins (NTs) and members of the transforming growth factor-B (TGF-B) superfamily have raised substantial hopes for future clinical applications. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Experimental Stroke and Neurotrophins: Regulation, function and gene transfer of neurotrophins in rat and mouse models of focal cerebral ischemia

    Författare :Gunnar Andsberg; Lund Neurologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; neuropsychology; Neurology; animal behaviour; striatum; stereology; immunohistochemistry; focal cerebral ischemia; nerve growth factors; neurophysiology; Neurologi; neuropsykologi; neurofysiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Stroke caused by focal cerebral ischemia is a major cause of death and neurological disability in humans. The forebrain region most commonly affected by ischemic incidents is that supplied by the middle cerebral artery. LÄS MER
