    Sammanfattning : The arachidonic acid metabolites - in particular the prostaglandins, thromboxanes and leukotrienes - have diverse and potent pharmacological effects and may also prove physiologically and pathologically significant. In long term incubation of human peripheral blood mononuclear leukocytes (PBML) in RPMI 1640 with fetal calf serum and [1-14C] arachidonic acid (AA) besides small amounts of some of these known metabolites a radioactive substance with chromatographical behaviour like no known eicosanoid was identified.     Sammanfattning : This thesis deals with the controlled crystallization of small organic molecules and is focused on solubility and polymorphism. The solubility was determined for phenylacetic acid, p-hydroxyphenylacetic acid, p-aminophenylacetic acid, p-hydroxybenzoic acid and ibuprofen in both water and in a range of organic solvents.     Sammanfattning : For photochromic molecules, the ability to switch reversibly between two states is controlled largely by structural effects. The photodimerization of 5-methyluracil, commonly known as thymine, a member of the pyrimidine family and one of the DNA bases, is a particularly important reaction in photobiology, one which occurs when the molecule is subjected to UV irradiation.
