16. The Neurological Wake-up Test in Neurocritical Care
Sammanfattning : The neurological wake-up test, NWT, is a clinical monitoring tool that can be used to evaluate the level of consciousness in patients with traumatic brain injury (TBI) and subarachnoid haemorrhage (SAH) during neurocritical care (NCC). Since patients with severe TBI or SAH are often treated with mechanical ventilation and sedation, the NWT requires that the continuous sedation is interrupted. LÄS MER
17. Biomimetic Iron Complexes involved in Oxygenation and Chlorination : A Theoretical Study
Sammanfattning : Biomimetic chemistry is directed towards the simulation of enzymatic reactivity with synthetic analogues. In this thesis a quantum chemical method has been employed to study the mechanism of highly reactive iron-oxo complexes involved in oxygenation and chlorination of organic substrates. LÄS MER
18. Tumour vasculature, oxygenation and radiosensitivity - a numerical modelling study
Sammanfattning : This thesis aims to investigate theoretically how parameters such as vessel density, blood oxygenation, blood velocity, spatial oxygen variation along vessels, tissue oxygen consumption and their distributions in uence the radiosensitivity of tumours. Numerical calculations are made in Matlab using voxel-based models. LÄS MER
19. Spinal cord oxygenation during thoracic aortic clamping in pigs
Sammanfattning : Despite a dramatic reduction in the mortality associated with thoracoabdominal aorticreplacement during the past 40 years, spinal cord ischaemia that results in paraplegia remainsa serious complication. Simple and reliable intraoperative monitoring techniques are neededto detect impending neurological deficit in time to prevent permanent damage. LÄS MER
20. Aspects of circulatory failure in respiratory extracorporeal membrane oxygenation
Sammanfattning : Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) was developed in the seventies for the intended use of supporting respiratory failure. Today ECMO has become a well-established treatment for patients with both respiratory and circulatory failure where conventional intensive care is inadequate. LÄS MER
