  1. 11. ARSENIC REMOVAL BY PHYTOFILTRATION AND SILICON TREATMENT : A POTENTIAL SOLUTION FOR LOWERING ARSENIC CONCENTRATIONS IN FOOD CROPS

    Författare :Arifin Sandhi; Gunnar Jacks; Gunno Renman; Maria Greger; Roger Herbert; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; aquatic moss; grain; rice; lettuce; macrophyte; phytoremediation; speciation; temperature; oxygenation; wetland.; Land and Water Resources Engineering; Mark- och vattenteknik;

    Sammanfattning : Use of arsenic-rich groundwater for crop irrigation can increase the arsenic (As) content in food crops and act as a carcinogen, compromising human health. Using aquatic plant based phytofiltration is a potential eco-technique for removing arsenic from water. LÄS MER

  2. 12. Lung Function, Respiratory Muscle Strength and Effects of Breathing Exercises in Cardiac Surgery Patients

    Författare :Charlotte Urell; Margareta Emtner; Elisabeth Westerdahl; Hans Hedenström; Agneta Ståhle; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Breathing exercises; Cardiac surgery; Deep breathing; Lung function; Oxygenation; Physical therapy; Positive expiratory pressure; Spirometry; Respiratory muscle strength; Medicinsk vetenskap; Medical Science;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Breathing exercises are widely used after cardiac surgery. The duration of exercises in the immediate postoperative period is not fully evaluated and only limited data regarding the effects of home-based breathing exercises after discharge from hospital have been published. 3. 13. Cooling and dopamine

    Författare :Roger Roscher; Anestesiologi och intensivvård; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Anaesthesiology; electrophysiology; cooling; Hypothermia; swine; lung transplantation; organ preservation; dopamine; circulation; contractility; oxygenation; intensive care; Anestesiologi; intensivvård;

    Sammanfattning : There is little knowledge about the circulatory effects of dopamine in hypothermia. Induced hypothermia has been shown to improve outcome in various settings. Hypothermia is also used for preservation of organs that are harvested for transplantation. LÄS MER

  4. 14. Aspects of renal blood flow and oxygenation in acute kidney injury during severe infections

    Författare :Tomas Luther; Robert Frithiof; Michael Hultström; Per Liss; Rafael Kawati; Anders Åneman; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Acute kidney injury; renal blood flow; renal oxygenation; COVID-19; fluids; mitochondria; sepsis; acute respiratory distress syndrome; magnetic resonance imaging; Anestesiologi och intensivvård; Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care;

    Sammanfattning : Acute kidney injury (AKI) is a common complication in patients treated in the intensive care unit (ICU). Severe infections/sepsis is the most common aetiology, and about half of patients treated in the ICU due to sepsis are affected. Although AKI often resolves over time, the development of AKI decreases the chances of surviving. LÄS MER

  5. 15. Near infrared spectroscopy for assessing oxygenation and hemodynamics in the upper extremities of healthy subjects and patients with work-related muscle pain

    Författare :Guilherme H. Elcadi; Albert G. Crenshaw; Mikael Forsman; Martin Fahlström; Svend Erik Mathiassen; Karen Sogaard; Högskolan i Gävle; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Near infrared spectroscopy; muscle oxygenation; hemodynamics; electromyography; extensor carpi radialis; trapezius; fysiologi;

    Sammanfattning : The prevalence of work-related muscle pain (WRMP) is large in the general population in the industrialized world. Despite significant advances over recent years in some research areas, the mechanisms of why WRMP occurs and the pathophysiological mechanisms behind the disorders are still unclear. LÄS MER
