  1. 1. Alternative methods for analysing moisture transport in buildings : Utilisation of tracer gas and natural stable isotopes

    Författare :Kjartan Gudmundsson; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; tracer gas; water vapour permeability; diffusion; surface diffusion; isotopic analysis; deuterium; oxygen-18; fractionation; vapour barrier; transient numerical modelling of diffusion; Building engineering; Byggnadsteknik;

    Sammanfattning : New methods, based on tracer gas measurements and isotopicanalysis can be used to evaluate the moisture properties ofbuilding materials and provide the means for forensic analysisof the origins and history of excessive water in buildings, theimmediate practical consequences of which will be the abilityto improve the moisture performance of constructions. It is shown, in theory and through measurements how thewater vapour permeability of porous building materials can witha good degree of accuracy be estimated with tracer gasmeasurements that provide an efficient alternative to the cupmethod. 2. 2. Mitochondrial function in human skeletal muscle: with special reference to exercise and training

    Författare :Michail Tonkonogi; Högskolan Dalarna; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :aerobic metabolism; oxidative phosphorylation; mitochondria; oxygen utilisation; citrate synthase; ADP sensitivity; ATP; muscle fibres; hydrogen ions; lactate; free radicals; proton leak; uncoupling; exercise; aerobic metabolism; oxidative phosphorylation; mitochondria; oxygen utilisation; citrate synthase; ADP sensitivity; ATP; muscle fibres; hydrogen ions; lactate; free radicals; proton leak; uncoupling; exercise;

    Sammanfattning : The overall objective of this thesis was to study the adaptation of oxidative function in human skeletal muscle to acute exercise of different modes, intensities and durations, and to endurance training. The effects of endurance training on mitochondrial function were evaluated in cross-sectional and longitudinal studies by measurements of mitochondrial oxygen consumption in isolated mitochondria and permeabilised muscle fibres and measurements of mitochondrial ATP production rate in isolated mitochondria. 3. 3. Physiological Engineering of Xylose Utilisation by Recombinant Saccharomyces cerevisiae

    Författare :Nina Quednau Meinander; Teknisk mikrobiologi; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; protein burden; physiology; fed-batch fermentation; chemostat; recombinant Saccharomyces cerevisiae; ethanol; xylose; xylitol; Microbiology; bacteriology; virology; mycology; Mikrobiologi; bakteriologi; virologi; mykologi;

    Sammanfattning : Xylitol production by recombinant, XYL1-expressing Saccharomyces cerevisiae was investigated in fed-batch fermentation using different cosubstrates for growth, and generation of reduced cofactors and maintenance energy. Xylose was converted into xylitol with 1:1 yield. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Tissue Perfusion and Oxygenation Evaluated by Measurements of Tissue Gases and pH. An Experiemental Study

    Författare :Åke Mellström; Anestesiologi och intensivvård; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; intensive care; Anestesiologi; intensivvård; Anaesthesiology; Tissue pH; Tissue PCO2; Oxygen utilization; Tissue PO2;

    Sammanfattning : Optimum peripheral perfusion, oxygenation and oxygen utilization is a prerequisite for normal wound healing, resistance to infection and cardiac function. The purpose of this study was to evaluate peripheral oxygen utilization by measurements of subcutaneous tissue gases and pH (PscO2, PscCO2 and pHsc) in comparison to established techniques for measurements of periph-eral tissue oxygenation and oxygen utilization in experimental animal models with hyperoxia-hypoxia, acidosis-alkalosis and haemorrhage-resuscitation. 5. 5. Aspects of extended impregnation kraft cooking for high-yield pulping of hardwood

    Författare :Helena Wedin; Mikael E. Lindström; Martin Ragnar; Jorge L. Colodette; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Yield; pulp; kraft cook; carbohydrate; xylan; oxygen delignification; Hexenuronic acid; kappa number;

    Sammanfattning : The long-term trend regarding wood is an increase in price. Because wood contributes to a large part of production costs, the efficient utilisation of wood is greatly desired to reduce production costs for kraft pulp producers. During the 1990s, the development of improved modified kraft cooking began, which led to higher yields. LÄS MER
