21. Enzymes and electron transport in microbial chlorate respiration
Sammanfattning : Microbial chlorate respiration plays an important role in the turnover of oxochlorates in nature and industrial waste management. This thesis deals with the characterization of the molecular components of chlorate respiration in Ideonella dechloratans. LÄS MER
22. Alternative methods for analysing moisture transport in buildings : Utilisation of tracer gas and natural stable isotopes
Sammanfattning : New methods, based on tracer gas measurements and isotopicanalysis can be used to evaluate the moisture properties ofbuilding materials and provide the means for forensic analysisof the origins and history of excessive water in buildings, theimmediate practical consequences of which will be the abilityto improve the moisture performance of constructions. It is shown, in theory and through measurements how thewater vapour permeability of porous building materials can witha good degree of accuracy be estimated with tracer gasmeasurements that provide an efficient alternative to the cupmethod. 23. Studies of transport in oxides on Zr-based materials
Sammanfattning : Zr-based materials have found their main application in the nuclear field having high corrosion resistance and low neutron absorption cross-section. The oxide layer that is formed on the surface of these alloys is meant to be the barrier between the metal and the corrosive environment. LÄS MER
24. Transport by Benthic Macrofauna: Functional Classification and Biogeochemical Response
Sammanfattning : Burrowing and reworking activities by benthic macrofauna regulate rates and pathways during organic matter mineralisation in bioturbated sediments. In so doing, they also affect the overall cycling of elements crucial in the biosphere (e.g. C, N, P, Fe, Mn and S). LÄS MER
25. The Role of Mitochondrial Uncoupling in the Development of Diabetic Nephropathy
Sammanfattning : Diabetes is closely associated with increased oxidative stress, especially originating from the mitochondria. A mechanism to reduce increased mitochondria superoxide production is to reduce the mitochondria membrane potential by releasing protons across the mitochondria membrane. LÄS MER
