16. Alternative methods for analysing moisture transport in buildings : Utilisation of tracer gas and natural stable isotopes
Sammanfattning : New methods, based on tracer gas measurements and isotopicanalysis can be used to evaluate the moisture properties ofbuilding materials and provide the means for forensic analysisof the origins and history of excessive water in buildings, theimmediate practical consequences of which will be the abilityto improve the moisture performance of constructions. It is shown, in theory and through measurements how thewater vapour permeability of porous building materials can witha good degree of accuracy be estimated with tracer gasmeasurements that provide an efficient alternative to the cupmethod. 17. Oxygen Metabolism in Experimental Kidney Disease
Sammanfattning : Tubulointerstitial hypoxia has been proposed a unifying mechanism behind the development of chronic kidney disease (CKD), regardless of primary diagnosis. Important factors that contribute to the development of hypoxia are reduced bioavailability of nitric oxide (NO), oxidative stress and mitochondria uncoupling. LÄS MER
18. Calcium-induced mitochondrial permeability transition in CNS-derived mitochondria - Pharmacological aspects of specificity and toxicity in neuroprotection
Sammanfattning : Mitochondria are the main site for energy conversion in the cell. Under certain circumstances, such as excess calcium retention or production of reactive oxygen species, a pore forms at contact sites between the outer and the normally impermeable inner mitochondrial membrane. 19. Ischemic and Hypoglycemic Brain Damage, Involvement of the Mitochondrial Permeability Transition Pore
Sammanfattning : Brain damage from ischemia-reperfusion and hypoglycemia are major causes of morbidity and mortality. Therapeutic strategies include hypothermia, glutamate-receptor blockade, immunosuppression and lately treatment aiming at preserving mitochondrial integrity and function. LÄS MER
20. Structural Studies and Modelling of Oxygen Transport in Barrier Materials for Food Packaging
Sammanfattning : The requirements of food packages are to ensure food safety and quality, to minimize spoilage, and to provide an easy way to store and handle food. To meet these demands for fibre-based food packages, barrier coatings are generally used to regulate the amount of gases entering a package, as some gases are detrimental to food quality. LÄS MER
