  1. 1. Obstructive sleep apnea syndrome. Treatment outcome, psychiatric aspects, neuropsychology and quality of life

    Författare :Pia Dahlöf; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :obstructive sleep apnea syndrome; uvulopalatopharyngoplasty; oxygen desaturation index; psychiatric morbidity; depression; dexamethasone suppression test; verbal learning and recall; executive functions; quality of life; spouses; long-term follow-up;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS) is characterized by snoring and apneas during sleep leading to oxygen desaturation, sleep fragmentation and excessive daytime sleepiness. Prior reports have indicated that psychiatric morbidity associated with sleep apnea might be reversed by intervention correcting the sleep related breathing disorder. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Physiological effects of apnoeic oxygenation using high-flow nasal oxygen

    Författare :Ida-Maria Forsberg; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : In anaesthetic practice, the inability to oxygenate and ventilate patients is a much-feared complication with risk for severe hypoxia-induced adverse outcomes. By administrating oxygen in the absence of spontaneous ventilation, apnoeic oxygenation may overcome these challenges by a prolonged time with sufficient oxygenation. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Ventilatory aspects of sleep and activity in patients with neuromuscular disorders

    Författare :Brita Klefbeck Stridsman; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :assisted ventilation; cervical cord injury; inspiratory muscle training; neuromuscular diseases; sleep; oximetry; trunk stability;

    Sammanfattning : Patients with cervical cord injuries (M) and slowly progressive neuromuscular diseases, such as prior polio and muscular dystrophy, often have decreased ventilatory capacity. This could affect both their daytime level of activity and sleep quality. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Rhonchopathy : long-term clinical results after palatal surgery

    Författare :Michael Lysdahl; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Snoring; sleep apnea; driving; accidents; mortality; uvulopalatopharyngoplasty; uvulopalatoplasty; laser surgery; oximetry.;

    Sammanfattning : Up to one third of Swedish middle-aged men snore habitually, disturbing their surroundings. More than 5% suffer from medical rhonchopathy combining snoring with obstructive breathing and fragmented sleep. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Nocturnal enuresis and rapid maxillary expansion : – long-term effect, prognostic variables, respiration during sleep and quality of life

    Författare :Ingrid Jönson Ring; Bazargani Farhan; Tryggve Nevéus; Agneta Markström; Maria Ransjö; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Rapid maxillary expansion; nocturnal enuresis; sleep disordered breathing; respiration; polygraphic sleep recording; quality of life.; Medicinsk vetenskap; Medical Science;

    Sammanfattning : Background:The orthodontic technique rapid maxillary expansion (RME) has been reported to have a potentially curative effect on nocturnal enuresis (NE). The mechanism behind this is unknown but could possibly be due to placebo and/or effects on respiration during sleep. LÄS MER
