  1. 21. High Blood Pressure in Children with Hydronephrosis

    Författare :Ammar Nadhom Farman Al-Mashhadi; Mattias Carlström; Gundela Holmdahl; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Blood pressure; hydronephrosis; hypertension; ambulatory blood pressure monitoring; nitric oxide; oxidative stress; pelvo-ureteric junction obstruction.; Barnkirurgi; Pediatric Surgery;

    Sammanfattning : The most common cause of secondary hypertension is intrinsic renal disease, but little is known about the influence of hydronephrosis on blood pressure. In this thesis, the risk of development of hypertension in children with hydronephrosis was studied. LÄS MER

  2. 22. Teratogenic Predisposition in Diabetic Rat Pregnancy

    Författare :Andreas Ejdesjö; Ulf J Eriksson; Parri Wentzel; Niklas Nordquist; Gernot Desoye; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; diabetes; malformations; teratogenic; advanced glycation end products; AGE; RAGE; oxidative stress; ROS; gene expression; Medical Cell Biology; Medicinsk cellbiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Pre-gestational diabetes increases the risk of congenital malformation in the offspring and both morbidity and mortality in the diabetic mother and her offspring. During pregnancy, high glucose levels act as a teratogen through several cellular and biochemical pathways and increased production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) has a central role in diabetic embryopathy. 3. 23. Changed iron metabolism and iron toxicity in scrapie-infected neuroblastoma cells

    Författare :Sandra Zetterström Fernaeus; Tiit Land; Gaetano Cairo; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; prion disease; oxidative stress; iron metabolism; Neurochemistry; Neurokemi;

    Sammanfattning : Reactions and interactions of iron and oxygen can be both beneficial and detrimental to cells and tissues. Iron is mainly found in our blood where it functions as a mediator in the transport of oxygen to the cells and is further vital for the cellular respiration reducing the oxygen to water. LÄS MER

  4. 24. Stability of Alternative Nuclear Fuel Materials in Aqueous Systems

    Författare :Sawsan El Jamal; Mats Jonsson; Mats Johnsson; Claire Corkhill; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; UC; UN; UO2; gamma radiolysis; oxidative dissolution; H2O2; studtite; additive; UC; UN; UO2; gammaradiolys; oxidativ upplösning; H2O2; studtite; additiv; Kemi; Chemistry;

    Sammanfattning : Nuclear power produces a large portion of the electricity worldwide. It has been the largest low-carbon energy source for more than 30 years and has played an essential role in the security of energy supplies for many countries. LÄS MER

  5. 25. On urbanisation and birds : Insights from a molecular and physiological perspective

    Författare :Pablo Salmon; Evolutionär ekologi; []
    Nyckelord :Air Pollution; Antioxidants; Birds; great tit Parus major; Local adaptation; Nitrogen oxides; Oxidative stress; Parallel evolution; Survival; Telomere dynamics; Telomeres; Urbanisation;

    Sammanfattning : Urbanisation of natural habitats is rapidly intensifying and poses a potential global threat for wildlife. Thus, it is important to explore its impact on wildlife in order to understand the present and future threats and how resilient organisms are to them. LÄS MER
