1. Development and Applications of Hypervalent Iodine Compounds : Powerful Arylation and Oxidation Reagents
Sammanfattning : The first part of this thesis describes the efficient synthesis of several hypervalent iodine(III) compounds. Electron-rich diaryliodonium salts have been synthesized in a one-pot procedure, employing mCPBA as the oxidant. Both symmetric and unsymmetric diaryliodonium tosylates can be isolated in high yields. LÄS MER
2. Environmentally Degradable Polyethylene : Effects of Additives and Environment on the Degradation and Degradation products
Sammanfattning : This thesis summarises and compares the influences ofdifferent additives (photosensitisers, pro-oxidants, abiodegradable filler) on blown low-density polyethylene (LDPE)films during photo- and thermal degradation with respect tochemical changes in the polymer matrices and identifieddegradation products. Additives studied were irondimethyldithiocarbamate (FeDMC), nickel dibutyldithocarbamate(NiDBC), carbon black, starch, a pro-oxidant that consisted ofmanganese stearate together with styrene butadiene rubber (SBR)or natural rubber (NR) and a master batch containing linearLDPE, starch and pro-oxidant. 4. Selective oxidation over mixed oxide catalysts
Sammanfattning : Since the metal oxide catalysts used in many chemical processes show very high selectivity for the products aimed at, both today and in the future, they play a key role in the environmentally and economically sustainable production of chemical intermediates. Two processes of this sort have been studied in the thesis: the ammoxidation of propane and propene over a Mo-V-Nb-Te-oxide catalyst and the selective oxidation of methanol over vanadium-based catalysts. 5. Valorization of herring filleting co-products to silage - Control of protein hydrolysis and lipid oxidation during ensilaging and possibilities for separating herring silage into multiple products
Sammanfattning : Industrial processing of herring ( Clupea harengus ) into convenience products such as fillets generates around 60% co-products being rich in both protein and n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs). A promising cost-efficient strategy to valorize these raw materials into food and/or feed ingredients would be to apply ensilaging, i.e. LÄS MER
