  1. 6. Micro-Flow Reactors for Kinetic Studies of Model Catalysts made by Electron-Beam Lithography

    Författare :Stefan Johansson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; bistability; catalysis; nano-fabrication; supported model catalyst; CO oxidation; electron-beam lithography EBL ; micro-reactor;

    Sammanfattning : The main objective of this work is to explore the potential of using electron beam lithography (EBL) to prepare well defined supported model catalysts, which can be used for catalytic research. The work has involved three major areas (i) EBL-fabrication of catalysts, (ii) design of a micro-flow reactor for catalytic evaluation, and (iii) problem oriented research using EBL-fabricated model catalysts. 2. 7. CO Oxidation over Oxide Supported Platinum Catalysts

    Författare :Mengqiao Di; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; low-temperature activity; CO oxidation; operando spectroscopy; water promotion; active catalyst support; nitrogen oxide inhibition;

    Sammanfattning : Catalytic oxidation of carbon monoxide (CO) is one of the most studied reactions that still needs to be improved because of its practical use in the chemical industry including feedstock purification and applications such as emission control, in-door air cleaning, improvement of fuel cell efficiency, etc. Concerning CO emissions, the transportation sector is a large contributor. 3. 8. Transient Phenomena in CO and Hydrocarbon Oxidation over Supported Platinum Catalysts

    Författare :Per-Anders Carlsson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; mean-field kinetics simulations; ignition; environmental heterogeneous catalysis; flow-reactor studies; periodic operation; extinction; low-temperature activity; transient methods; in situ spectroscopy;

    Sammanfattning : The aim with this thesis work was to better understand transient phenomena involved in the low-temperature oxidation of CO and hydrocarbons by oxygen over typical oxidation catalysts. Supported platinum catalysts were prepared and carefully studied under transient conditions by means of flow-reactor experiments, different in situ spectroscopic (FTIR and XANES) methods in combination with mass spectrometry and mean-field kinetics simulations. 4. 9. Deactivation of diesel oxidation catalysts

    Författare :Jonas Andersson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Accelerated aging: Diesel exhaust: Oxidation catalyst: Sulfur deactivation: Phosphorous poisoning: CO oxidation: Pt dispersion: Al2O3: Sintering: TEM: XPS;

    Sammanfattning : To meet the demand for heavy- and light-duty diesel vehicles on expansive markets while complying with current and future emission standards, it is necessary to reinsure the long-livety of the applied exhaust aftertreatment technology. Loss of catalytic performance may be associated with environmental as well as economical consequences. LÄS MER

  5. 10. Spectroscopic investigation of palladium catalysts during wet methane oxidation

    Författare :Peter Velin; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Methane oxidation; Water inhibition; XAS; DRIFTS; Supported palladium; Environmental catalysis; Operando spectroscopy; Sustainable transports;

    Sammanfattning : Abatement of the strong greenhouse gas methane in vehicle applications by use of catalytic end-of-pipe technologies is challenging due to the prevailing reaction conditions with low temperatures and high water content. In this thesis, the mechanisms behind low-temperature water inhibition of lean methane oxidation over palladium-based catalysts have been studied using an integrated experimental approach including wet-chemical preparation of model catalysts with systematic variation of key performance parameters, transient measurements of reaction kinetics in chemical flow reactor, and operando infrared and X-ray absorption spectroscopic characterisation.
