  1. 1. Membrane Protein Biogenesis in Escherichia coli : A proteomics approach

    Författare :David Vikström; Jan-Willem de Gier; Eitan Bibi; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SRP; YidC; SecE; Membrane protein biogenesis; protein targeting; 2D BN SDS-PAGE; Biochemistry; biokemi;

    Sammanfattning : In the bacterium Escherichia coli all proteins are synthesized in the cytoplasm. However, at least 25% of them then need to be exported to another cellular compartment where they exert their function. E. coli has several different targeting pathways to ensure the correct localization of its proteins. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Protein production in the E. coli cell envelope

    Författare :Thomas Baumgarten; Jan-Willem de Gier; Dirk-Jan Scheffers; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; E. coli; protein biogenesis; recombinant proteins; membrane proteins; secretory proteins; protein displays; outer membrane vesicles; Biochemistry; biokemi;

    Sammanfattning : Proteins fulfil essential functions in every cell and malfunctioning proteins are often the cause of diseases. On the other hand, proteins like antibody fragments or hormones can be used to treat diseases. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Outer membrane proteins of Yersinia pestis : Ail and OmpA

    Författare :Sara Celinda Schesser Bartra; Hans Wolf-Watz; Virginia Miller; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Yersinia pestis; outer membrane proteins; Ail; ompA; Microbiology; immunology; infectious diseases; Mikrobiologi; immunologi; infektionssjukdomar; immunologi; Immunology; mikrobiologi; Microbiology; Infectious Diseases; infektionssjukdomar;

    Sammanfattning : A vast number of studies have been completed on the virulence determinants of Yersinia spp.; however, the focus of many of these studies has been on the virulence plasmid and the plasmid-encoded Type three secretion system. Nevertheless, many chromosomal genes whose products are directly involved in virulence have also been identified. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Insight into the mitochondrial apoptotic pathway : The interplay of the pro-apoptotic Bax protein with oxidized phospholipids and its counterplayer, the pro-survival Bcl-2 protein

    Författare :Marcus Wallgren; Gerhard Gröbner; Marco Colombini; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; apoptosis; Bax; Bcl-2; CD; cell-free protein synthesis; DSC; membrane; mitochondria; oxidized phospholipids; reconstitution; solid state NMR; biologisk kemi; biological chemistry;

    Sammanfattning : Apoptosis plays a crucial role in multicellular organisms by preserving tissue homeostasis and removing harmful cells. The anti-apoptotic B-cell CLL/lymphoma 2 (Bcl-2) and the pro-apoptotic Bcl-2-associated X protein (Bax) act as major regulators of the mitochondrial apoptotic pathway. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Membrane Protein Biogenesis in Saccharomyces cerevisiae

    Författare :Johannes Reithinger; Gunnar von Heijne; Richard Zimmermann; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biochemistry; biokemi;

    Sammanfattning : Membranes are hydrophobic barriers that define the outer boundaries and internal compartments of living cells. Membrane proteins are the gates in these barriers, and they perform vital functions in the highly regulated transport of matter and information across membranes. LÄS MER
