    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Adult; Cleft Lip; Cleft Palate; Cross-Sectional Studies; Control Groups; Dysphonia; Follow-Up Studies; Humans; Nasal Obstruction; Nose Deformities; Otolaryngology; Quality of Life; Reconstructive Surgical Procedures methods; Retrospective Studies; Treatment Outcome; Voice Quality; Acoustic; Oto-Rhino-Laryngology; Oto-rhino-laryngologi;

    Sammanfattning : Cleft lip and palate (CLP) is the most common craniofacial malformation. Even after repair of the cleft there may be persistent symptoms affecting speech, voice, nasal breathing, dentition, appearance and quality of life. LÄS MER

  2. 17. Malleus fracture : experimental and clinical aspects

    Sammanfattning : Background: Patients with malleus fractures are described as rare in the literature. The cause of these fractures are most commonly trauma and digital manipulation of the ear canal, while in some cases the causes are unknown. LÄS MER

  3. 18. The Round Window Membrane - Gateway to the Cochlea : A Morphological and Electrophysiological study

    Författare :Leif Nordang; Sten Hellström; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Otorhinolaryngology; round window membrane; pseudomonas exotoxin; auditory brainstem response; hearing loss; endolymphatic sac; inner ear immunology; glutamate; nitric oxide inhibitor; glucocorticoid.; Otorhinolaryngologi; Otorhinolaryngology; Otorhinolaryngologi; Oto-Rhino-Laryngology; oto-rhino-laryngologi;

    Sammanfattning : Topical treatment of several inner ear diseases through the round window membrane (RWM) might be feasible in the near future. Bacteria toxins, ototoxic drugs and noise trauma seem to harm the inner ear by a common pathway which involves, excessive outflow of the afferent neurotransmitter glutamate and formation of nitric oxide (NO), which can severely damage cells/nerve endings and lead to cell death. 4. 19. Impact of disease and treatment on body weight and eating in patients with head and neck cancer : experiences from a multicenter study

    Författare :Sandra Ottosson; Göran Laurell; Cecilia Olsson; Björn Zackrisson; Elisabeth Kjellén; Antti Mäkitie; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Head and neck cancer; weight loss; body mass index; tube feeding; radiation therapy; survival; treated volume; swallowing dysfunction; patient experience.; oto-rhino-laryngologi; Oto-Rhino-Laryngology;

    Sammanfattning : Background Nutritional deterioration in patients with head and neck cancer (HNC) has a multifactorial etiology mainly associated with tumor and treatment related factors. The objective of the present thesis was to investigate the impact of the disease and treatment on body weight and eating in patients with HNC treated with radiation therapy (RT) as the single modality treatment or as preoperative RT by analyzing body weight and body mass index (BMI) over time, predictive factors for weight loss and BMI, weight loss and BMI as prognostic factors for survival, and by studying the patients’ own experience of food and eating. 5. 20. Middle ear mechanics : using temporal bone experiments to improve clinical methods

    Författare :Anton Rönnblom; Krister Tano; Magnus Von Unge; Mimmi Werner; Måns Eeg-Olofsson; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Middle ear; conductive hearing loss; ossiculoplasty; human temporal bone; Laser doppler vibrometry; malleus fracture; middle ear muscles; muscle fiber composition; Oto-Rhino-Laryngology; oto-rhino-laryngologi;

    Sammanfattning : BackgroundThe middle ear transmits and amplifies sound vibrations from the tympanic membrane via three ossicles to the inner ear. Moreover, it contains two muscles, the stapedius muscle (SM) which protects the inner ear from loud noise, and the tensor tympani (TT) whose function is still debated. LÄS MER
