1. Displaced femoral neck fractures : studies on osteosynthesis and total hip arthroplasty
Sammanfattning : The treatment of femoral neck fractures has for many years in Sweden been reduction and osteosynthesis with nails or screws. For displaced fractures the risk of complications such as avascular necrosis and non-union is up to 50 %, often leading to a secondary operation with an arthroplasty. LÄS MER
2. On customization of orthopedic implants - from design and additive manufacturing to implementation
Sammanfattning : This doctoral thesis is devoted to studying the possibilities of using additive manufacturing (AM) and design based on computed tomography (CT), for the production of patient-specific implants within orthopedic surgery, initially in a broad perspective and, in the second part of the thesis focusing on customized clavicle osteosynthesis plates. The main AM method used in the studies is the Electron Beam Melting (EBM) technology. LÄS MER
3. Distal femur fracture in the elderly patient
Sammanfattning : Studies on the epidemiology of distal femur fractures show a vast increase in low-energy trauma-associated fractures in older ages. Age-related changes in bones lead to loss of bone matrix and increased porosity, which entails an increased risk for fractures and different fracture patterns than in younger individuals. LÄS MER
4. Nutritional status and functional capacity in elderly people with hip fracture
Sammanfattning : The aim was to study nutritional status and functional capacity in elderly men and women admitted to hospital with a hip fractnre, and to evaluate the effect of nutritional intervention and surgical method. A total of 176 patients participated in the study. LÄS MER
5. Biodegradable magnesium implants, immunomodulation, and tissue repair/regeneration
Sammanfattning : The century-old paradigm of holding fractures with a metallic implant to enable bone repair, known as osteosynthesis, is still used today without alteration. Patients are increasingly being treated with metallic implants made of magnesium (Mg) that secure osteosynthesis and are reabsorbed in situ without the surgical re-entry that requires their permanent analogs.
