16. Risk factors for falls and fractures in elderly women. The Malmö OPRA study
Sammanfattning : Approximately half of all women will sustain a fracture after the age of 50. Fractures may cause long-term disability and excess mortality. Identifying individuals at high risk of sustaining a fracture is important in the development of primary and secondary prevention strategies. LÄS MER
17. On the Growth of Bone through Stress Driven Diffusion and Bone Generation Processes
Sammanfattning : In order to prevent or modify bone degeneration due to rest or due to diseases such as osteopenia and osteoporosis, the modeling and remodeling of bone tissue must be better understood. In this thesis it is assumed that the primary condition leading to bone growth is a change of the chemical environment caused by transport of matter resulting from stress driven diffusion. LÄS MER
18. Physical activity and the young female skeleton
Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis was to identify the influence of calcium, physical activity and detraining on bone mass and bone size in girls and young women. We hypothesised that calcium intake above a specific level does not enhance the accrual of bone mineral, that exercise predominantly influences the skeleton in the early pubertal period and that reduced training is followed by a loss of exercise-induced skeletal benefits. 19. Conducting Polymer-based Biohybrid Materials : Towards Microphysiological Chips and Soft Actuators for Bone Tissue Engineering
Sammanfattning : The human body is a complex system, consisting of different types of biomolecules and living matters, such as nucleic acids, proteins, carbohydrates, lipids, serum, cells, tissues, and organs. These complex biomolecules and living matters integrate and interact dynamically to perform and maintain body functions. LÄS MER
20. Physical activity and its effect on bone in the short- and long- term perspective
Sammanfattning : Osteoporosis is a growing problem worldwide where Sweden has one of the highest fragility fracture incidences in the world. The growing years are thought to be an opportune time to build strong bones and the enhancement of peak bone mass (PBM) has been suggested as a prevention strategy for osteoporosis. LÄS MER
