  1. 16. Regenerative medicine of the airway cartilage : a morphological and immunohistochemical study with focus on cricoid cartilage defects treated with BMP-2

    Författare :Ion Tcacencu; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Larynx; growth factor; wound healing; perichondrium; progenitor cells; osteogenesis; growth plate.;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Cartilage provides flexible support for upper airway. Induction of cartilage healing is required for the success of many surgical interventions in the head and neck that are used as treatments for several diseases, such as subglottic stenosis and tumors of the larynx and thyroid. 2. 17. Characterisation of human fetal mesenchymal stem cells

    Författare :Cecilia Götherström; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Mesenchymal stem cells; fetal stem cell transplantation; intrauterine transplantation; osteogenesis imperfecta; mixed lymphocyte culture; gene array;

    Sammanfattning : Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) are present in various tissues of fetal and adult origin. I isolated and expanded MSCs from human fetal 1st trimester livers and observed that they have a shorter cell doubling time compared to adult bone marrow-derived MSCs. LÄS MER

  3. 18. Characterization of dioxin-induced bone tissue modulations : investigating the role of AhR and the retinoid system

    Författare :Maria Herlin; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : All individuals are exposed to a large number of chemicals from multiple sources, and concern is growing that many everyday chemicals, alone or in combination, contribute significantly to observed increases in public health diseases. Bone tissue has been identified as a target for effects of environmental chemicals, however, possible consequences for human and wildlife health as well as the underlying mechanisms behind these effects are not yet well known. 4. 19. Directed differentiation of human embryonic stem cells : a model for early bone development

    Författare :Elerin Kärner; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Research in stem cell biology is an important and necessary requirement for the better understanding of cell differentiation and formation of tissues, while also contributing to the field of regenerative medicine. The establishment of human embryonic stem cell (HESC) lines offers the potential to study the earliest developmental processes and provides an unlimited source of cells which can be used for the differentiation into functional osteoblasts. 5. 20. The osteogenic potential of human mesenchymal stem cells: Novel markers and key factors for differentiation

    Författare :Cecilia Granéli; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Mesenchymal stem cells; Mesenchymal stromal cells; Osteogenic differentiation; Adipogenic differentiation; Bone regeneration; Inflammation; Monocytes; Infection; Bacterial membrane vesicles; Compromised bone healing; Cell surface proteins; CD-markers; Osseointegration; Regenerative medicine;

    Sammanfattning : Mesenchymal stem cells are multipotent stem cells with ability to differentiate into cells of the connective tissue lineage, such as adipocytes, osteoblasts and chondrocytes, both in vitro and in vivo. The main objective of the present thesis was to study different aspects of the osteogenic potential of MSCs. LÄS MER
