6. Towards Gene Therapy of Osteopetrosis
Sammanfattning : The goal in this thesis is development of gene therapy for malignant infantile osteopetrosis (IMO), a rare but severe genetic bone disease. The concept of osteopetrosis implies dysfunction or lack of osteoclasts, the bone resorbing cells in our body, resulting in failure of normal bone breakdown. LÄS MER
7. CD47–SIRPα : an interaction of importance for bone cell differentiation
Sammanfattning : Bone tissue is continuously remodeled by bone-forming osteoblasts and bone-resorbing osteoclasts, in processes tightly regulated by hormones, cytokines and growth factors. CD47, a ubiquitously expressed protein, and one of its ligands, signal-regulatory protein alpha (SIRPα), are two cell-surface proteins belonging to the immunoglobulin (Ig)-superfamily. LÄS MER
8. Molecular heterogeneity of prostate cancer bone metastasis
Sammanfattning : Castration-resistant prostate cancer (CRPC) develops after androgen deprivation therapy of advanced PC, often with metastatic growth in bone. Patients with metastatic CRPC have very poor prognosis. Growth of CRPC, in most but not all patients, seems to involve androgen receptor (AR) activity, despite castrate levels of serum testosterone. 9. Cellular mechanisms involved in bone resorption
Sammanfattning : The effects of parathyroid hormone (PTH), prostaglandins (PGE1, PGE2, PGF2a), cAMP, cAMP-analogues, phosphodiesterase (PDE) inhibitors and la (OH) D3 on bone resorption and associated cellular process have been studied in a bone organ culture system using half- calvaria from 6-7 day-old mice. Bone resorption was assessed by determining the release of calcium (Ca2+), inorganic phosphate (Pi) and 45Ca from the calvarial bones to the culture media. LÄS MER
10. Additives Increasing the Bone-Forming Potential around Calcium Phosphate Cements : Statin, Strontium and Silicon
Sammanfattning : More than one million people worldwide receive some kind of bone graft each year. Grafts are often needed following bone tumour removal or traumatic fractures to fill voids in the bone and to aid in the healing process. LÄS MER
