  1. 1. Development of Novel Therapies, Models, and Biomarkers for Osteoclast-Related Diseases

    Författare :Henrik Löfvall; Avdelningen för molekylärmedicin och genterapi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Osteopetros; Biomarkör; Cellodling; Extracellulär matrix ECM ; Osteoklast; Osteoclast; Biomarker; Cell culture; Osteopetrosis; Gene Therapy; Extracellular matrix ECM ;

    Sammanfattning : Osteoclasts are derived from hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs) and form upon stimulation of osteoclast precursors by macrophage colony-stimulating factor (M-CSF) and receptor activator of nuclear factor κΒ ligand (RANKL). Osteoclasts resorb bone by secreting hydrochloric acid, matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) and cathepsin K. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Development of Novel Models for Studying Osteoclasts

    Författare :Christian Thudium; Avdelningen för molekylärmedicin och genterapi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Osteoclast; Osteopetrosis; Osteoporosis; Bone; Hematopoiesis; Gene Therapy; Mouse Models; oc oc; RANK KO;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis focuses on developing and characterizing novel models for studying osteoclasts with an emphasis on how mutations abolishing osteoclastic acidification affect osteoclast signaling and bone remodeling, as well as how to treat patients bearing these rare mutations. Bone remodeling is under normal circumstances a tightly balanced process where resorption of bone by osteoclasts is followed by adequate amounts of bone formation by osteoblasts. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Toll-like receptors (TLRs) and inflammatory bone modeling

    Författare :Ali Kassem; Ulf Lerner; Pernilla Lundberg; Pedro Souza; Timothy Arnett; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Toll-like receptor; osteoclast; osteoblast; bone resorption; bone formation; P. gingivalis; S. aureus; flagellin.;

    Sammanfattning : Patients with inflammatory or infectious conditions such as periodontitis, peri-implantitis, osteomyelitis, rheumatoid arthritis, septic arthritis and loosened joint prosthesis display varying severity of destruction in the adjacent bone tissue. Bone loss in inflammatory diseases is considered a consequence of cytokine induced RANKL and subsequent enhanced osteoclast formation. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Novel Insights into Inflammatory Disturbed Bone Remodelling

    Författare :Elin Kindstedt; Pernilla Lundberg; Östen Ljunggren; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; bone; osteoblast; osteoclast; chemokines; CCL11; periodontitis; rheumatoid arthritis; innate lympoid cells; odontologi; Odontology; immunologi; Immunology; biology; biologi; reumatologi; rheumatology;

    Sammanfattning : Bone is a dynamic tissue that is continuously remodelled, a process that requires equal amounts of osteoclastic bone resorption and osteoblastic bone formation. Inflammation may disturb the equilibrium and result in local and/or systemic bone loss. Negative bone mass balance occurs in several chronic inflammatory diseases, e.g. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Effects of silicon on bone. Clinical observations and experimental cell studies

    Författare :Catarina Magnusson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; silicon; osteoclast; pregnancy; lactation; bone metabolism; bone regeneration;

    Sammanfattning : Bone health has a major impact on life quality. In Sweden, osteoporosis is a highly prevalent skeletal disease that primarily affects the elderly, causing fragility fractures and pain. LÄS MER
