1. Numerical study of dense particle flows under planar shear
Sammanfattning : In this thesis I conducted numerical simulations to study the flow behavior of dense particle flows composed of hard particles under planar shear using the discrete element method. The simulations were carried out in two dimensional systems, where the particles are modelled as circular discs. The discs are non-Brownian and neutrally buoyant. LÄS MER
2. Control of oscillatory thermocapillary convection
Sammanfattning : The possibility to stabilize the oscillatory thermocapillaryconvection is demonstrated using a proportional feedbackcontrol. This topic has a strong industrial motivation inconnection with a container-less crystal growth method calledthe floating-zone technique. LÄS MER
3. Turbulent Flow in Constricted Blood Vessels : Quantification of Wall Shear Stress Using Large Eddy Simulation
Sammanfattning : The genesis of atherosclerosis has previously been shown to be affected by the frictional load from the blood on the vessel wall, called the wall shear stress (WSS). Assessment of WSS can therefore provide important information for diagnoses, intervention planning, and follow‐up. LÄS MER
4. A numerical study of two-fluid models for dispersed two-phase flow
Sammanfattning : In this thesis the two-fluid (Eulerian/Eulerian) formulation for dispersed two-phase flow is considered. Closure laws are needed for this type of models. We investigate both empirically based relations, which we refer to as a nongranular model, and relations obtained from kinetic theory of dense gases, which we refer to as a granular model. LÄS MER
5. Flow dynamics in corrugated pipes: Effect on particle agglomeration
Sammanfattning : In recent times, the deleterious impact of particulate emissions from road vehicles on the well-being of humans has garnered a significant amount ofattention. Regulatory bodies have enacted legislation in order to counter act particulate emissions. LÄS MER
