  1. 16. Axis Fractures in Elderly : Epidemiology and Treatment related outcome

    Författare :Anna-Lena Robinson; Claes Olerud; Yohan Robinson; Bengt Lind; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; odontoid fracture; treatment; elderly; cervical spine; axis fracture; Orthopaedics; Ortopedi;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Axis fractures are a common injury in the elderly population. Treatment is often complicated due to osteoporosis and patient comorbidity. Knowledge of the incidence of these fractures, as well as their treatment, outcome and mortality rate, will improve knowledge and decision-making processes for this fragile group of patients. 2. 17. Spinal fractures related to ankylosing spondylitis : Epidemiology, clinical outcome and biomechanics

    Författare :Yohan Robinson; Claes Olerud; Helena Saraste; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; ankylosing spondylitis; spinal fractures; Orthopaedics; Ortopedi;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Spinal fractures related to ankylosing spondylitis (AS) are often associated with serious complications. Therefore, knowledge of the incidence, best treatment, outcome, and prevention would assist in improving current guidelines. LÄS MER

  3. 18. Injuries are not accidents! : an emergency-department population-based epidemiological study of injuries with special reference to trauma recidivism hip fractures and geriatric falls

    Författare :Fredrik Röding; Ulrica Bergström; Marie Lindkvist; Jack Lysholm; Per Morberg; Olle Svensson; Sari Ponzer; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; injury; population; fractures; contusions; sprains; fall injuries; Orthopaedics; ortopedi;

    Sammanfattning : Injury is a major public health problem. In rich countries fall injures now kill more people than all other injury mechanisms together, because of global ageing and large-scale sustainable injury prevention programs for all other injury mechanisms but falls. LÄS MER

  4. 19. Fractures of the distal radius : radiological measurements and clinical outcome

    Författare :Viktor Schmidt; Sebastian Mukka; Mats Wadsten; Arkan Sayed-Noor; Maria Wilcke; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Radius; distal radius fracture; fracture; orthopedics; radiology; outcome; clinical outcome; Radius; distal radius fraktur; fraktur; ortopedi; radiologi; utfall; kliniskt utfall; Orthopaedics; ortopedi;

    Sammanfattning : The most common fracture is the distal radius fracture (DRF). Wrist function is of importance for the ability to perform activities of daily living, work-related tasks and leisure activities. Treatment generally focuses on restoring anatomical alignment and providing adequate rehabilitation. LÄS MER

  5. 20. Boning up on Vitamin D : Observational Studies on Bone and Health

    Författare :Greta Snellman; Karl Michaëlsson; Haakon Meyer; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Vitamin D; fracture; BMD; assays; genes; mortality; cohort studies; Orthopaedics; Ortopedi;

    Sammanfattning : The primary function of vitamin D in humans is to maintain sufficient circulating calcium concentrations. Low vitamin D levels could result in excessive calcium resorption from bone. Vitamin deficiency may therefore decrease bone mineral density (BMD), resulting in an increased risk of fracture. LÄS MER
