  1. 11. Hypothalamic neuronal circuits involved in the regulation of food intake and body weight : histochemical studies in lean rats and obese mutant mice

    Författare :Matilda Bäckberg; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :AGRP; arcuate nucleus; BBB; CART; GABA; GABA receptors; immunohistochemistry; in situ hybridization; hypothalamus; LHA; leptin; MCH; NPY; orexin; POMC; tubby;

    Sammanfattning : Obesity is a major health problem because of its dramatic increase in prevalence and its association with type 2 diabetes, coronary heart diseases, hypertension and stroke. It is well known that signals generated in response to feeding behavior are integrated in the brain. LÄS MER

  2. 12. Neuropeptide circuitries regulating food and water intake

    Författare :Christian Broberger; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :agouti gene-related protein; anorexia mutation; arcuate nucleus; cholecystokinin; cocaine- and amphetamine-regulated transcript; coexistence; confocal microscopy; dorsal root ganglion; feeding; hypocretin; immunohistochemistry; in situ hybridization; melanin-concentrating hormone; nodose ganglion; nucleus tractus solitaxii; orexin; paraventricular nucleus; satiety; sensory neurones; pro-opiomelanocortin; vagus nerve;

    Sammanfattning : An adequate supply of nutrients through food intake is critical for survival, as evidenced by disorders such as obesity and anorexia, which in the long run may be life-threatening. Feeding behaviour is ultimately controlled by interacting neuronal populations in the brain. LÄS MER

  3. 13. Propofol changes the cytoskeletal function in neurons : An experimental study in cortical cultures

    Författare :Dean Turina; Christina Eintrei; Karin Björnström Karlsson; Lindahl Sten; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Propofol; cytoskeleton;

    Sammanfattning : Every day, general anaesthetics are given to a large number of patients around the world but the cellular mechanisms of how anaesthetics act are still not clear. General anaesthetics cause the intended unconsciousness, amnesia and immobility in patients, but also side effects such as a decrease in mean arterial pressure and arrhythmia, both of which contribute to complications such as heart damage and stroke. 4. 14. Methods and detection of endogenous peptides in the CNS and GI tract

    Författare :Anja Finn; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :antibody; characterization; radioimmunoassay; opioid peptides; orexins;

    Sammanfattning : Endogenous peptides, such as enkephalins, endorphins and orexins modulate a variety of biological processes; these peptides are found in the central nervous system and periphery, including the gastrointestinal tract. One of the methods commonly used to determine localization, concentration, expression and function of endogenous peptides is the radio immunoassay (RIA). LÄS MER

  5. 15. Brain Networks and Dynamics in Narcolepsy

    Författare :Natasha Morales Drissi; Maria Engström; Gunnar Cedersund; Fredrik Elinder; Birgitte Kornum; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Narcolepsy is a chronic sleep disorder, characterised by excessive daytime sleepiness with frequent uncontrollable sleep attacks. In addition to sleeprelated problems, changes in cognition have also been observed in patients with narcolepsy and has been linked to the loss of Orexin-A in a number of studies. LÄS MER
