6. Surface force studies of association phenomena at solid-liquid interfaces
Sammanfattning : The main topics of this thesis, association phenomena inbulk and at solid-liquid interfaces in polar and non-polarmedia, were studied by a range of methods. Direct forcemeasurements employing the interferometric surface forceapparatus (SFA) was the chief technique. LÄS MER
7. Ion Solvation in Critical Binary Aqueous Solvents Probed by Advanced Synchrotron-Based Techniques
Sammanfattning : The Poisson-Boltzmann equation is the standard tool for studying the electrostatic interactions in electrolyte solutions, although it neglects e.g. the ion size and ion-ion correlations. Even experimentally observed specific ion effects cannot be explained in a view of this approximation. LÄS MER
8. Magnetic Order in Artificial Structures
Sammanfattning : The topic of this thesis is the investigation of the magnetic properties of artificially created magnetic structures. Applying different characterization techniques, ranging from direct imaging methods to reciprocal space techniques, the properties of lithographically patterned arrays of magnetic thin film and multilayer elements are investigated by exploring their magnetic state, extending from the atomic scale up to collective ordering phenomena of nano-magnetic elements. 9. Urban Evolution
Sammanfattning : In nature, objects formed from a dynamics on one level often form yet new objects and new dynamics on a new level. This process generates a hierarchical organization of nature that is particularly tall for objects that are of biological or human origin. LÄS MER
10. Dynamics of metal oxides surfaces and the connection to reactivity
Sammanfattning : Many interesting chemical and physical phenomena which take place on surfaces of metaloxides rely on the material's ability to repeatedly alter the electronic surface structure. Formost metal oxides this functionality is connected to the degree of non-stoichiometry andthe presence of structural defects. LÄS MER
