1. Statin-induced cellular effects mediated by the P2X7 receptor
Sammanfattning : Cholesterol-lowering statins have been shown to inhibit growth of different cancer cells both in vitro and in vivo. Epidemiological studies also indicate a chemopreventive effect of statins. We have investigated the effect of statins on Akt/protein kinase B signaling and their sensitizing effect of cytostatic drugs. LÄS MER
2. Care for the New-Born : Breastfeeding and Skin-to-Skin Contact
Sammanfattning : Breastfeeding is associated with improved health in mothers and children and human milk is especially beneficial for preterm infants. The vast majority of pregnant women in Sweden intend to breastfeed, but breastfeeding rates are suboptimal, with even lower rates for preterm infants. LÄS MER
3. Stress-induced cardiomyopathy - clinical and experimental studies
Sammanfattning : Background: Stress-induced cardiomyopathy (SIC) is an acute cardiac condition with akinesia in the left ventricle (LV) that can be severe. A stress-trigger, physical or emotional, is usually identified preceding onset of symptoms and catecholamine overstimulation is involved in the pathogenesis of SIC. LÄS MER
4. A machine independent LISP compiler and its implications for ideal hardware
Sammanfattning : A LISP compiler is constructed without any a priori assumptions about the target machine. In parallel with the compiler a LISP oriented instruction set is developed. The instruction set can be seen as either an intermediarylanguage for a traditional computer oras the instruction set for a special purpose LISP machine. LÄS MER
5. Protein–DNA Recognition : In Vitro Evolution and Characterization of DNA-Binding Proteins
Sammanfattning : DNA-recognizing proteins are involved in a multitude of important life-processes. Therefore, it is of great interest to understand the underlying mechanisms that set the rules for sequence specific protein–DNA interactions. Previous attempts aiming to resolve these interactions have been focused on naturally occurring systems. LÄS MER
