16. Plasmonics with a Twist
Sammanfattning : This thesis focuses on the exploration of interactions between circularly polarized light and plasmonic nanostructures, and nanoparticles. Polarization is an integral part of light and has a wealth of applications in the modern world. LÄS MER
17. Optimization of resonant all-dielectric nanoparticles for optical manipulation and light management
Sammanfattning : The resonant interaction between light and matter lies at the heart of nanophotonics research. In particular, nanoparticles that possess optical resonances in the visible spectral range have been avidly studied and employed for various technical and biological applications in the last two decades. 18. Optical manipulation and spectroscopy of single functional globin-containing cells in microfluidic systems
Sammanfattning : Recent advances in microbiology and biomedicine require development of tools to monitor the response of single cells to environmental stimuli under controlled physiological conditions. In this thesis, I describe how this can be achieved by combining various spectroscopic techniques with optical tweezers and microfluidic systems. LÄS MER
19. A gastight microfluidic system combined with optical tweezers and optical spectroscopy for electrophysiological investigations of single biological cells
Sammanfattning : Stroke affects around 20 million people around the world every year. Clinically, stroke is a result of brain damage due to the shortage of oxygen delivered to the nerve cells. To minimize suffering and costs related to the disease, extensive research is performed on different levels. LÄS MER
20. Development of quantitative optical microscopy methods for single cell analysis
Sammanfattning : Optical microscopy has brought powerful methods to biological research, in particular the possibility to assay dynamic molecular processes within living individual cells. This thesis deals with various aspects of fluorescence and Raman microscopy, such as the possibility of avoiding cellular damage or stress caused by illumination, how to manipulate single cells for spectroscopic analysis and how to quantify images automatically.
