    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; nonlinear distortion; optical pulse shaping; dispersion-management; eye-diagram; cross-phase modulation; optical sampling; optical fiber applications; multiplexing; parametric amplification; demultiplexing; optical pulses; fiber optical communication; nonlinear systems; time division multiplexing; four-wave mixing; polarization-mode dispersion; optical signal processing; fiber optical nonlinearities; fiber ring laser; soliton robustness; mode-locking; optical filters; networks;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis deals with short optical pulse generation from actively mode-locked Erbium-doped fiber ring lasers (ML-EFRL) and their applications in all-optical signal processing (optical sampling and switching) and transmission experiments for high-capacity fiber optic systems. In future ultra-high bit-rate optical time division multiplexed (OTDM) systems, one of the key requirements is to develop reliable optical pulse sources that can generate high quality optical pulses. 2. 2. Layered optical networks : implications to switching and transmission

    Författare :Stefan Larsson; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : With the aim of supporting and enhancing high-capacitycommunication networks, such as telephony, Internet and others,this work has investigated:· transmission gains withtime-slotted optical communication, · performance ofoptical add/drop multiplexers (OADMs) and optical crossconnects(OXCs), · OXC networks serving Internet Protocol(IP)-routers, · packet hop reductions in IP-controlledoptical networks, · a simple optical neighbour discoverymethod, · economics of complementing a client network withan optical express layer.Time-slotting was shown to enable bi-directionaltransmission at the same frequency and multiwavelengthtransmission over dispersion-shifted fibre. 3. 3. Coherent Optical Transmission Systems : Performance and Coding Aspects

    Författare :Miu Yoong Leong; Sergei Popov; Gunnar Jacobsen; Enrico Forestieri; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY;

    Sammanfattning : Since the invention of fiber-optic systems in the 1970s, user demand has driven innovation forward, and each new generation of products has achieved higher data rates than its predecessor. Today, the most promising approach for further increasing data rates is coherent transmission with multi-level modulation and digital signal processing (DSP). LÄS MER

  5. 5. Generation and Transmission of Optical Solitons at Ultrahigh Bit Rates

    Författare :Bamdad Bakhshi; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; nonlinear optics; chirp-free optical pulses; lowpass filtering; polarization-maintaining fibers; optical communication; optical solitons; Erbium fiber ring laser; dispersion-management; active mode-locking; soliton interactions; erbium-doped fiber amplifier; Gaussian pulses;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis deals with the generation and transmission of optical solitons in ultrahigh-speed fiber-optic communication systems. For optical soliton pulses the fiber dispersion and nonlinearity can under certain circumstances cancel each other, thus allowing the solitons to remain undistorted over long distances. LÄS MER
