1. High-capacity short-reach optical communications
Sammanfattning : The global traffic is experiencing an exponential growth posing severe challenges to the communication networks in terms of capacity. As a future-proof technology fiber communication is widely implemented in different network segments, which can be categorized by transmission distance as long-haul and short-reach. LÄS MER
2. Nanostructures of Graphite and Amorphous Carbon - Fabrication and Properties
Sammanfattning : Nanoscience is a well-established research area, which concerns properties and fabrication of objects with typical dimensions on the 1-100 nanometer length scale. A central issue has been the development of techniques for fabrication and characterization of nanometer sized objects, which have contributed considerably to progress in both practical applications and fundamental research. 3. Spectral Management in Quasi-Phase-Matched Parametric Devices
Sammanfattning : Nonlinear optical interaction in quasi-phase-matched structures opens up unique possibilities to build compact and efficient parametric devices such as optical parametric oscillators, generators, and amplifiers with tailored spectral properties. The focus of this thesis is on novel parametric interactions with periodically-poled KTiOPO4 (PPKTP) as the parametric gain medium. LÄS MER
4. Continuous-filtering Vernier spectroscopy
Sammanfattning : Continuous-filtering Vernier spectroscopy (CF-VS) is a laser-based detection technique that combines the broad spectral coverage of an optical frequency comb (OFC) with the enhanced interaction length provided by an optical cavity. The resonances of the cavity filter the OFC to a small group of comb modes that probe the transitions of the species present in the cavity. LÄS MER
5. Optical modelling of conjugated polymers : from materials to devices
Sammanfattning : Measurements and modelling of theoretical properties of polymer-based photovoltaic devices, PPVDs, are the subjects of this thesis. Modelling refers both to modelling of materials, based on extraction of the dielectric function, and to modelling of devices by computer simulation of the optical electrical field inside PPVDs.
