  1. 11. Optical Methods for Tympanic Membrane Characterisation : Towards Objective Otoscopy in Otitis Media

    Författare :Mikael Sundberg; Tomas Strömberg; Ton van Leeuwen; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Optical Methods; Spectroscopy; Surface Curvature; Monte Carlo; Tympanic Membrane; Otitis Media; Medical engineering; Medicinsk teknik;

    Sammanfattning : Otitis media, which is an upper respiratory tract infection that affect the middle ear, is the second most common disease in childhood, outnumbered in prevalence only by the common cold. Diagnosis of middle ear inflammation is often performed in the primary healthcare where the normal procedure involves anamnesis and physical examination of the tympanic membranes (TM) of the patient, usually be means of otoscopy. 2. 12. Optical Spectroscopy on Correlated Electron Materials

    Författare :Johan Bielecki; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; dynamics; optical spectroscopy; colossal magnetoresistance; magnetism; transition metal oxides; high temperature superconductivity;

    Sammanfattning : Strongly correlated materials poses a great challenge to our microscopic understanding of matter, mainly due to the inability of perturbative methods to predict the properties of such materials. This inability stems from strong correlations between electronic, lattice and spin degrees of freedom, leading to a variety of complex and exotic phenomena such as (unconventional) superconductivity, metal-insulator transitions, non-Fermi liquid behavior and colossal magnetoresistance. 3. 13. On the use of aerosol optical properties and satellite-retrieved trace gases in regional air quality modelling

    Författare :Emma Andersson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Model; Climate; Radiation; Satellite; Air Quality;

    Sammanfattning : The effects of anthropogenic pollutants in the lower atmosphere (troposphere) have been shown, historically and scientifically, to have a deleterious effect on both plant and animal life. Pollutants such as near-surface ozone and soot (black carbon) are two notorious examples with clear anthropogenic sources. LÄS MER

  4. 14. Whiteness and Fluorescence in Layered Paper and Board : Perception and Optical Modelling

    Författare :Ludovic Gustafsson Coppel; Per Edström; Caisa Johansson; Markku Hauta-Kasari; Mittuniversitetet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Whiteness; Perception; Colour Appearance Modelling; Paper Optics; Light Scattering; Fluorescence; Lateral Light Scattering; White-Top Mottle; Kubelka-Munk; Radiative Transfer;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis is about modelling and predicting the perceived whiteness of plain paper from the paper composition, including fluorescent whitening agents. This involves psychophysical modelling of perceived whiteness from measurable light reflectance properties, and physical modelling of light scattering and fluorescence from the paper composition.
