1. Optical Efficiency of Low-Concentrating Solar Energy Systems with Parabolic Reflectors
Sammanfattning : Solar electricity is a promising energy technology for the future, and by using reflectors for concentrating solar radiation onto photovoltaic cells, the cost per produced kWh can be significantly reduced. The optical efficiency of a concentrating system determines the fraction of the incident energy that is transferred to the cells and depends on the optical properties of the system components. 2. Optical Turbulence Characterization for Ground-Based Astronomy
Sammanfattning : The optical turbulence, which creates perturbations of the wavefronts coming from the stars, is caused by small-scale fluctuations in the index of refraction of the atmosphere and is a problem for astronomers because it limits the maximum resolution of the ground-based telescopes. One way of identifying the best sites to build astronomical observatories, where the influence of the optical turbulence is as small as possible, is to use the standard meteorological parameters to get a first idea of the potential of a site. 3. Model-based Approaches to Diffuse Optical Imaging and Dosimetry
Sammanfattning : The work within this thesis investigates Photodynamic therapy and Fluorescence imaging for therapeutics and visualization of deeply embedded lesions. Photodynamic therapy (PDT) is a cancer treatment modality that can eradicate tumors when light, a photosensible drug and oxygen are present. LÄS MER
4. Dynamic and quasi-stationary electrochromic response of amorphous tungsten oxide thin films : In situ combined electrochemical and optical measurements during lithium intercalation
Sammanfattning : Electrochromic (EC) materials can adjust their optical properties, reversibly, by means of an external electrical stimulus. They have relevant technological applications; for example, energy-efficient smart windows, which can adapt dynamically—according to the given environmental conditions—to control the heat and visible light fluxes between the interior and exterior of a building. 5. Windows : Optical Performance and Energy Efficiency
Sammanfattning : This thesis treats angle-resolved optical properties and the energy efficiency of windows. A theoretical evaluation of optical and thermal properties of windows is briefly surveyed and the energy performance of a large selection of windows, under different conditions, is examined. In particular, angle dependent optical properties are analysed. LÄS MER
