  1. 21. Aspects of Optical Broad Band Spectroscopy and Information Extraction - Applications in Medicine and Ecology

    Författare :Mikkel Brydegaard; Atomfysik; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Fluorescence Spectroscopy; Optical diagnostics; Electro-optics; Applied spectroscopy; Multispectral imaging; Optical spectroscopy; LIDAR; Remote sensing; Environmental monitoring; Chemometrics; Fysicumarkivet A:2012:Brydegaard Sörensen;

    Sammanfattning : The present thesis describes a number of aspects of modern electro-optical measurement technology also known as bio-photonics; this includes instrumentation, applications, sample interaction and data interpretation. The methods employed operate over several domains, and light measurements are discretized both in intensity, space, angle, time, polarization and energy. LÄS MER

  2. 22. Optical characterisation of subwavelength dielectric particles using particle tracking beyond the Stokes-Einstein relation

    Författare :Erik Olsén; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; off-axis holography; Optical microscopy; size determination; particle tracking; partial slip; lipid vesicles; particle dynamics;

    Sammanfattning : As the importance of nanoparticles continues to increase in both biology and industrial processes, so does the need for accurate and versatile characterisation methods. However, most light-based methods to quantify size and refractive index of individual particles are either limited to snapshot observations, particles larger than the wavelength of light, non-dynamic particle properties, or assuming the hydrodynamic boundary conditions without experimental evaluation. 3. 23. High-resolution Imaging of Cleared and Expanded Kidney Tissue Samples

    Författare :David Unnersjö Jess; Hans Blom; Hjalmar Brismar; Lena Scott; Karlhans Endlich; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Kidney; Renal Pathology; Microscopy; Super-resolution microscopy; Tissue expansion; Foot processes; Glomerular filtration; Podocytes; Biological Physics; Biologisk fysik;

    Sammanfattning : The kidney is one of the most important and complex organs in the humanbody with the task of filtering hundreds of litres of blood daily. It is responsiblefor the salt and acid/base balance in the body, as well as secretinghormones important for red blood cell production and blood pressure regulation. LÄS MER

  4. 24. Pushing the Boundaries of Biomolecule Characterization through Deep Learning

    Författare :Henrik Klein Moberg; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Computer Vision; Optical Microscopy; Artificial Intelligence; Biological Imaging; Molecule Characterisation; Deep Learning; Nanofluidic Scattering Microscopy;

    Sammanfattning : The importance of studying biological molecules in living organisms can hardly be overstated as they regulate crucial processes in living matter of all kinds. Their ubiquitous nature makes them relevant for disease diagnosis, drug development, and for our fundamental understanding of the complex systems of biology. LÄS MER

  5. 25. Optical Investigations of Chiral Liquid Crystals

    Författare :Anders Dahlgren; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; antiferroelectric; de Vries theory; ferroelectric; optical activity; chiral; dielectric tensor; unwinding; liquid crystal; helicoidal; selective reflection;

    Sammanfattning : Optical investigations of course involve experimental work, but a theoretical basis is also needed. The first chapter can hopefully can give the non-expert an insight into the science of liquid crystals. Liquid crystals are optically birefringent, and a review of the phenomenon of birefringence follows in chapter 2. LÄS MER
