  1. 11. Morphological and Physiological Adaptations in Cichlid Crystalline Lenses

    Författare :Marcus Schartau; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; SKF-38393; D1-agonist; optical properties 6-hydroxydopamine; optical measurements; organ culture; dopamine; teleost; lens circulation; Lens; SCH-23390; melatonin; multifocal optical system;

    Sammanfattning : Vertebrate eyes share a common ancestry as well as the basic design with a pupil, a retina and a lens. The lens is essential for perceiving the details in the world around us and ensures that a sharp image of the surroundings is focused onto the photoreceptors in the retina. LÄS MER

  2. 12. Daylighting Systems : Development of Techniques for Optical Characterization and Performance Evaluation

    Författare :Annica M. Nilsson; Arne Roos; Claes-Göran Granqvist; Marie-Claude Dubois; Michael Köhl; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Optical spectroscopy; integrating sphere; ray tracing; light scattering; window physics; Venetian blinds; core daylighting; optical characterization; Teknisk fysik; Engineering Science;

    Sammanfattning : Successful integration of daylighting systems requires the ability to predict their performance for given climates. In this dissertation, a bottom-up approach is applied to evaluate the optical performance of a selection of daylighting systems. LÄS MER

  3. 13. On optical methods for intracerebral measurements during stereotactic and functional neurosurgery : Experimental studies

    Författare :Johan Antonsson; Karin Wårdell; Lars-Erik Augustinsson; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Laser Doppler perfusion monitoring; Diffuse reflectance spectroscopy; Functional and stereotactic neurosurgery; Medical engineering; Medicinsk teknik;

    Sammanfattning : Radio frequency (RF) lesioning and deep brain stimulation (DBS) are the two prevailing surgical treatments for movement disorders within the field of stereotactic and functional neurosurgery. For RF-lesioning, a small volume of brain tissue is coagulated and knowledge of the lesion size and growth is of great importance for the safety and outcome of the procedure. LÄS MER

  4. 14. Development of Models, Methods, and Materiel for Deep Tissue Imaging using Light, Ultrasound, and Spectral-Hole Burning

    Författare :David Hill; NanoLund: Centre for Nanoscience; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; biomedical imaging; ultrasound optical tomography; ultrasound-modulated optical tomography; acousto-optical tomography; Monte Carlo light transport; spectral-hole-burning filters; rare-earth-ion doped crystals; stoichiometric lithium niobate;

    Sammanfattning : The medical imaging technique called “ultrasound optical tomography” (UOT) entails light scattered in tissue that is given spatial information by interacting with an ultrasound field, thus allowing for molecular information to be imaged with ultrasonic resolution. This thesis discusses how UOT can be implemented, with most attention put toward the implementation using spectral-hole-burning filters (SHF) in rare-earth-ion-doped crystals. LÄS MER

  5. 15. Dynamic and quasi-stationary electrochromic response of amorphous tungsten oxide thin films : In situ combined electrochemical and optical measurements during lithium intercalation

    Författare :Edgar Alonso Rojas González; Gunnar Niklasson; Aline Rougier; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Electrochromism; Optical absorption; Amorphous materials; Tungsten oxide; Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy; Color impedance spectroscopy; Intercalation; Engineering Science with specialization in Solid State Physics; Teknisk fysik med inriktning mot fasta tillståndets fysik;

    Sammanfattning : Electrochromic (EC) materials can adjust their optical properties, reversibly, by means of an external electrical stimulus. They have relevant technological applications; for example, energy-efficient smart windows, which can adapt dynamically—according to the given environmental conditions—to control the heat and visible light fluxes between the interior and exterior of a building.
