  1. 1. Fats in Mind : Effects of Omega-3 Fatty Acids on Cognition and Behaviour in Childhood

    Författare :Ulrika Birberg Thornberg; Thomas Karlsson; Magnus Lindgren; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Cognition; Omega-3 Fatty Acids; Children; ADHD; Executive Functions; kognition; omega-3 fettsyror; barn; ADHD; exekutiva funktioner; Psychology; Psykologi;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis was to examine possible effects of omega-3 fatty acids on children’s cognition and behavior. Longitudinal as well as cross-sectional comparisons were made among children with typical development and children with ADHD /at risk developing ADHD. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Establishment and characterization of a murine T-cell lymphoma/leukemia model

    Författare :Ann-Sofie Johansson; Dan Holmberg; Magnus Lindskog; Finn Skou Pedersen; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Mouse model; T-cell lymphoma; Moloney murine leukemia virus; proviral integration; lymphomagenesis; COX-2; omega 3; Oncology; Onkologi; onkologi; Oncology;

    Sammanfattning : Mouse models of human disease are valuable tools for studying pathogenesis and for evaluating novel therapies. T-cell lymphoma is a relatively rare disease in humans, affecting 100-150 persons yearly in Sweden. It exists in both aggressive and more indolent forms. LÄS MER

  3. 3. On diet in ankylosing spondylitis

    Författare :Björn Sundström; Solveig Wållberg-Jonsson; Gunnar Johansson; Margaretha Haugen; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; diet; ankylosing spondylitits; omega-3; cardiovascular; reumatologi; rheumatology;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis was to examine the role of diet in ankylosing spondylitis (AS). Patients were examined in: i) a postal questionnaire survey of dietary habits and gastrointestinal (GI) symptoms; ii) a study on biomarkers of diet and disease activity; iii) a comparison of cardiovascular risk factors with the general population using data from the Västerbotten Intervention Programme (VIP), and; iv) a 21-week omega-3 fatty acid supplementation study regarding the effects on disease activity. 4. 4. Inflammation modulating effects of prostaglandins and omega-3 fatty acids

    Författare :Inger Vedin; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Omega-(omega6) and omega-3 fatty acids (FA) and their metabolites (eikosanoids, such as prostaglandins, PG) are important modulators of immune and inflammatory responses in various ways. The aim of this thesis was to assess some in vitro and ex vivo effects of these lipids on blood leukocytes. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Interaction between dietary factors and genetic risk for lipoprotein traits and cardiovascular disease

    Författare :Sophie Hellstrand; Diabetes - kardiovaskulär sjukdom; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Diet; polyunsaturated fatty acids; diet quality index; fatty acid desaturase; blood lipids; lipoproteins; polymorphisms; genetic risk score; gene-diet interaction; cohort; epidemiology; cardiovascular disease;

    Sammanfattning : In previous studies, a high quality diet has been associated with a reduced risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD) compared to a low diet quality, and specific “healthy” diet components, such as polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs), have been hypothesized to reduce the risk of CVD. However, results from epidemiological studies have been conflicting. LÄS MER
