  1. 1. The role of benthic macrofauna in nitrogen cycling in eutrophic lake sediment

    Författare :Jonas Martin Svensson; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; nitrogen retention; nitrous oxide; oligochaetes; chironomids; mineralisation; nitrification; denitrification; eutrophic; sediment; lake; Macrofauna; nitrogen cycling; fish reduction.; Ecology; Ekologi;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis concerns the role of sediment-living macrobenthos in the cycling of nitrogen species and nitrogen transformation in eutrophic freshwater sediments. In my thesis I have, employing 15N-isotope techniques in laboratory experiments, shown the importance of infaunal chironomid larvae and oligochaetes on denitrification in eutrophic lake sediments. 2. 2. The neglected ecology of the sand goby: Abundance and feeding in the Baltic sublittoral

    Författare :Sigrid Z. Ehrenberg; Ragnar Elmgren; Sture Hansson; Gunilla Ejdung; Erik Bonsdorff; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; sand goby; sublittoral; sub-thermocline; abundance; feeding; consumption; activity; Marine ecology; Marin ekologi; marin ekologi; Marine Ecology;

    Sammanfattning : I investigated the ecology and population density of the sand goby, Pomatoschistus minutus, at sub-thermocline depth in the north-western Baltic proper. Most previous research on the sand goby, and the co-occurring closely related common goby, P. LÄS MER

  3. 3. On enchytraeids and naidids: Life history traits and responses to environmental stress

    Författare :Anna-Karin Augustsson; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Ecology; oligochaeta; terrestrial naididae; toxicity testing; asexual reproduction; sexual reproduction; drought; environmental stress; metal pollution; Ekologi; Animal ecology; Djurekologi;

    Sammanfattning : My thesis shows that enchytraeids and naidids are sensitive to various forms of environmental stress, which in combination with the wide distribution of both families make them highly suitable for use in risk assessment and soil monitoring. Enchytraeids were subject to chemical stress under both laboratory and field conditions. LÄS MER
