  1. 1. PACAP and orphanin FQ/nociceptin -Distribution, importance and regulation in sensory neurons and spinal cord

    Författare :Lina Pettersson; Institutionen för experimentell medicinsk vetenskap; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; neurophysiology; Neurologi; neuropsykologi; neurofysiologi; neuropsychology; Neurology; trk; spinal cord; sensory neuron; rat; PAC1; PACAP; ORL1; OFQ N; neurotrophin; neuropeptide; nerve transection; nerve compression; inflammatory pain; BDNF; DRG;

    Sammanfattning : Neuropeptide expression in the nervous system is abundant and plastic, and an altered expression after injury is an example of a functional response, helping the neuron to cope with adverse changes, and involves effects on differentiation, synthesis, repair/regeneration, survival, and modulation of signal transmission. I have investigated the distribution/expression of the neuropeptides, orphanin FQ/nociceptin (OFQ/N) and pituitary adenylate cyclase activating polypeptide (PACAP), under normal conditions, in response to nerve injuries, and also studied sensory responses in mice deficient for the PAC1 receptor (PAC1-/-). 2. 2. Non-caloric regulation of food intake

    Författare :Anica Klockars; Dan Larhammar; Michael Williams; Robert Fredriksson; Karolina Skibicka; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Neuroscience; Neurovetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : Food intake is shaped by environmental, endocrine, metabolic, and reward-related signals. A change in appetite is an outcome of integration of the relevant external and internal stimuli. While the main purpose of eating is to reverse a negative energy balance, mechanisms protecting homeostasis change appetite for other reasons. LÄS MER

  3. 3. In vitro and postmortem studies of the brain opioid system : association to opiate dependence

    Författare :Parisa Zarnegar; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Opioid system; brain; gene expression; amygdala; hippocampus; opiate dependence;

    Sammanfattning : Opioids such as heroin are highly addictive illicit drugs. The μ opioid receptor (MOR) plays a central role in mediating the effects of opiates and related opioid. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Endogenous Opioids and Voluntary Ethanol Drinking : Consequences of Postnatal Environmental Influences in Rats

    Författare :Lisa Gustafsson; Ingrid Nylander; Erika Roman; Ryszard Przewlocki; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Pharmaceutical pharmacology; Maternal separation; Maternal deprivation; Handling; Isolation; Alcohol; Two-bottle model; Four-bottle model; MEAP; Dynorphin B; Nociceptin orphanin FQ; Radioimmunoassay; Farmaceutisk farmakologi;

    Sammanfattning : Genetic and environmental factors interact to determine the individual vulnerability to develop ethanol dependence. The neurobiological mechanisms underlying these processes are not fully understood. Endogenous opioid peptides have been suggested to contribute. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Peptidergic innervation of periarticular tissue : a study in the rat

    Författare :Paul Ackermann; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Immunohistochemistry; radioimmunoassay; pain measurement; Achilles tendon; collateral ligaments; joint capsules; tendon rupture; regeneration; peripheral nervous system; neuropeptides; delta opioid receptor;

    Sammanfattning : Painful musculo-skeletal disorders pose a tremendous burden on the healthcare system, the main reason being the limited knowledge of the underlying pathomechanisms and lack of specific treatment. Hypothetically, the peripheral nervous system in the musculo-skeletal tissues plays an important role in the regulation of pain, inflammation, vasoactivity and also tissue repair. LÄS MER
