  1. 1. Individual Differences in Multitasking : Support for Spatiotemporal Offloading

    Författare :Ivo Todorov; Timo Mäntylä; Fredrik Jönsson; Patrik Sörqvist; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; multitasking; cognitive offloading; cognitive functions; individual differences; executive functions; spatial ability; sex differences; Psychology; psykologi;

    Sammanfattning : In both the private and work spheres, multitasking among three or more activities has become and is continuing to evolve as a pervasive element of everyday life, and recent technological advances only seem to be exacerbating the process. Despite attempts to understand the mental processes that let humans successfully multitask, little is known about the functional cognitive level at which these mental processes take place. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Control over the Cloud : Offloading, Elastic Computing, and Predictive Control

    Författare :Per Skarin; Institutionen för reglerteknik; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Cloud; Control Theory; Model Predictive Control; Offloading; Elastic Computing; Networks; Utility Computing; Cloud Services; Internet-of-Things; Distributed Cloud; 5G Systems;

    Sammanfattning : The thesis studies the use of cloud native software and platforms to implement critical closed loop control. It considers technologies that provide low latency and reliable wireless communication, in terms of edge clouds and massive MIMO, but also approaches industrial IoT and the services of a distributed cloud, as an extension of commercial-of-the-shelf software and systems. 3. 3. Towards 5G-Enabled Intelligent Machines

    Författare :Gerasimos Damigos; George Nikolakopoulos; Johan Eker; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; UAV; 5G; QoS; offloading; Robotics and Artificial Intelligence; Robotik och artificiell intelligens;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis introduces a novel framework for enabling intelligent machines and robots with the fifth-generation (5G) cellular network technology. Autonomous robots, such as Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), Autonomous Guided Vehicles (AGVs), and more, can notably benefit from multi-agent collaboration, human supervision, or operation guidance, as well as from external computational units such as cloud edge servers, in all of which a framework to utilize reliable communication infrastructure is needed. Sammanfattning : Link speeds in networks will in the near-future reach and exceed 100 Gbps. While available specialized hardware can accommodate these speeds, modern networks have adopted a new networking paradigm, also known as Network Functions Virtualization (NFV), that replaces expensive specialized hardware with open-source software running on commodity hardware. 5. 5. Offline Task Scheduling in a Three-layer Edge-Cloud Architecture

    Författare :Ayeh Mahjoubi; Karl-Johan Grinnemo; Arunselvan Ramaswamy; Alessandro Papadopoulos; Karlstads universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; task offloading; task scheduling; edge computing; internet of things; optimization techniques; heuristics; meta-heuristics; Computer Science; Datavetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : Internet of Things (IoT) devices are increasingly being used everywhere, from the factory to the hospital to the house to the car. IoT devices typically have limited processing resources, so they must rely on cloud servers to accomplish their tasks. Thus, many obstacles need to be overcome while offloading tasks to the cloud.
