  1. 1. Short- and long-term cardiovascular and behavioural effects of oxytocin : mechanisms involved and influence of female steroid hormones

    Författare :Maria Petersson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :oxytocin; nociceptive thresholds; naloxone; blood pressure; heart rate; spontaneous motor activity; oestrous cycle; ovariectomy; oestradiol; progesterone; weight gain; clonidine; locus coeruleus; alpha 2-adrenoreceptor; cholecystokinin; insulin; gastrin; corticosterone; ACTH; rat;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of the present thesis was to investigate short- and long-term cardiovascular and behavioural effects of oxytocin. In addition, the influence of female steroid hormones as well as possible mechanisms behind the oxytocin induced effects were investigated. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Pheromones for modulating reproduction in cattle : biological potential of oestrus-related substances inintra- and inter-species chemical communication

    Författare :Kristina Nordéus; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Nyckelord :LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Declining dairy cow fertility, largely attributable to increasing milk yields, is of major concern to dairy farmers worldwide. New tools for reproductive management, to replace exogenous hormones, would be of great interest. Chemical communication in cattle has been suggested to cause modifications of the oestrous cycle. 3. 3. Progesterone profiles, oestrus expression and pregnancy in dairy cows

    Författare :Sofia Nyman; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Nyckelord :LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : The cow’s ability to reproduce is essential for milk production. Traditionally genetic evaluations for fertility have been based on measures on insemination- and calving dates, which in general are highly influenced by on-farm decisions. Unfortunately, the low heritability of classical fertility traits makes the genetic improvement slow. LÄS MER

  4. 4. The porcine endosalpinx at different reproductive stages : morphology, immune cell infiltration and cytokine expression

    Författare :Jatesada Jiwakanon; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Nyckelord :LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Fertilization takes place in the lower part of the porcine oviduct and to be successful, a balance between immunological tolerance to allogeneic differences and immune reactivity to foreign pathogens is required. The thesis aims to describe immune cells and morphological changes in different segments [isthmus (Isth), ampulla (Amp) and infundibulum (Inf)] of the porcine oviduct at various stages of the oestrous cycle, after artificial insemination (AI, pre- and post-ovulatory) and during early pregnancy. 5. 5. Genes implicated in the development of obesity and obesity-related disease

    Författare :Kajsa Lindell; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :obesity; adipose tissue; hypothalamus; leptin; leptin receptor; 5 untranslated region; hypertension; angiotensinogen; DNA microarray;

    Sammanfattning : Obesity is a major health problem because of its dramatic increase in prevalence and the association of obesity with type 2 diabetes, coronary heart disease, hypertension and stroke. Although mutations in certain genes have been shown to cause obesity, the molecular mechanisms underlying obesity and obesity-related disease are still largely unknown. LÄS MER
