1. Small Clauses in Swedish : Towards a Unified Account
Sammanfattning : In this thesis I offer a unified syntactic account of the small clauses involved in Swedish object-with-infinitive constructions (ECM), object predicative constructions and absolute constructions. In the present framework, this similarity is conceptually appealing and is also supported by empirical data. LÄS MER
2. Satsekvivalenta infinitivfraser i svenskan : En synkron och diakron undersökning
Sammanfattning : This thesis investigates control infinitives and ECM-infinitives in the history of Swedish. Both constructions are non-finite, based on infinitives with or without complements, but share some properties and functions with finite subordinate clauses. LÄS MER
3. Satsmotsvarigheter i finsk prosa under 1600-talet : participialkonstruktionen och därmed synonyma icke-finita uttryck i jämförelse med språkbruket före och efter 1600-talet
Sammanfattning : The present work is a study of the non-finite equivalents of the Latin accusative and infinitive in 17th century Finnish prose. The analysis is based on excerpts from a corpus comprising some 22 million words (the number of words in a modern work of fiction is normally 70,000 - 100,000). LÄS MER
4. The Conceptual Structure of Object Control and Exceptional Case Marking in English
Sammanfattning : Within the framework of Jackendoff’s conceptual semantics, this study investigates the semantic properties that govern the distribution of object control (such as John persuaded Mary to help Sally) and exceptional case marking (such as John wanted Mary to help Sally) in English. In contrast to Jackendoff’s approach to control, one central idea here is that the to-infinitive complements under discussion should receive a uniform semantic analysis, and thus that control behaviour cannot be explained in terms of semantic argument type of the complement clause.
