    Sammanfattning : Many vascular plant species are unable to colonise calcareous sites, the floristic composition of adjacent limestone and acid silicate soils differing markedly. The inability of these 'calcifuge' species to establish themselves and grow on limestone soil appears to mainly be related to their low capacity for solubilising and absorbing phosphate and/or iron from such soils.     Sammanfattning : Nutrient limitations constrain the capacity for northern coniferous forests to capture and store carbon (C). Nitrogen (N) deposition may enhance tree productivity in these forests, but it remains uncertain how the storage of C in soils is responding to changes in N availability, and how limitations by other elements, such as phosphorus (P), develop in response to N enrichment.     Sammanfattning : Efforts are made to change from 1st to 2nd generation bioethanol production, using lignocellulosics as raw materials rather than using raw materials that alternatively can be used as food sources.     Sammanfattning : The first paper (Paper I) in this thesis treats autumn cooling in the Swedish lake Väsman. The water temperature is simulated using a one-dimensional lake model where the vertical mixing is calculated by a k - ɛ turbulence model. The heat exchange between the atmosphere and the lake is formulated in terms of heat fluxes. LÄS MER
