21. Renewable Energy and Nutrient Valorization from Anaerobic Digestion : Resource-Efficient Solutions
Sammanfattning : This thesis presents a comprehensive analysis aimed at understanding process performance, methane yield, and key influencing factors within the context of solid-state anaerobic digestion (SS-AD). SS-AD is used to treat organic material with high solids content, which can be challenging to address by alternative methods. LÄS MER
22. Ecosystem processes and biodiversity : theoretical studies and experiments with an aquatic model ecosystem
Sammanfattning : Today, human enterprise has implications for all of nature, from the well being of the smallest organism, to the alteration of global biogeochemical cycles. To understand how major ecosystem processes are affected by environmental changes and decreasing biodiversity is crucial as many of natures services depend of such processes. LÄS MER
23. Appropriate Modelling Complexity: An Application to Mass Balance Modelling of Lake Vänern, Sweden
Sammanfattning : This work is about finding an appropriate modelling complexity for a mass-balance model for phosphorus in Lake Vänern, Sweden. A statistical analysis of 30 years of water quality data shows that epilimnion and hypolimnion have different water quality and should be treated separately in a model. Further vertical division is not motivated. LÄS MER
24. Baltic Sea food web dynamics and response to environmental change
Sammanfattning : The Baltic Sea ecosystem is subject to a combination of external pressures such as fishery, changing climate and land-based nutrient inputs. In combination with internal food web mechanisms these external forces can lead to changes in the food web structure and function. LÄS MER
25. Climate Change Impacts on the Catchment Contribution to Lake Water Quantity and Quality
Sammanfattning : A key question related to climate change projections is how will aquatic systems respond to changes in variables such as temperature and precipitation? This thesis uses GWLF, a simple catchment scale model to explore potential impacts of climate change on water quantity and quality.River discharge and nutrient loads were modelled for several warmer world scenarios.
