11. Nutrient loads to the Baltic Sea
Sammanfattning : Nutrient enrichment is generally regarded as the greatest threat to the ecosystems of the Baltic Sea. This thesis demonstrates that the loads of nitrogen and phosphorus in the rivers in the Baltic Sea drainage basin are larger than previously assumed and by far exceed the size of the loads that reach the sea by way of other pathways, i.e. LÄS MER
12. Disturbance regimes in dry sandy grasslands – past, present and future
Sammanfattning : A number of sandy grassland habitats of interest for biodiversity conservation can be found in Europe. One such habitat is the threatened xeric sand calcareous grassland, which is home to a large number of endangered species. LÄS MER
13. Phytoplankton succession and algal nutrient kinetics in eutrophic brackish water environments
Sammanfattning : This thesis has been concerned with studying the effects of pollution on aquatic ecosystems with the main emphasis on investigating the phytoplankton succession in the brackish bay of Brunnsviken after sewage diversion. The causes of the observed changes have been investigated through enrichment experiments with phytoplankton in batch cultures and in studies of the nutrient uptake kinetics of Enteromorpha compressa. 14. Selenium Compounds in Milk. Studies of Selenoproteins, Selenium Enrichment and Oxidative Stability of Food
Sammanfattning : Selenium is an essential nutrient and in animals and humans it can either be specifically incorporated into proteins as selenocysteine or randomly as selenomethionine. It can also occur as low-molecular-weight compounds and the form of selenium in foods may also influence food quality. LÄS MER
15. Nutrient supply to reed canary grass as a bioenergy crop : intercropping and fertilization with ash or sewage sludge
Sammanfattning : Production of renewable energy from herbaceous crops on agricultural land is of great interest since fossil fuels need to be replaced with sustainable energy sources. Reed canary grass (RCG), Phalaris arundinacea L. is an interesting species for this purpose. LÄS MER
