  1. 6. Ghosts and machines : regularized variational methods for interactive simulations of multibodies with dry frictional contacts

    Författare :Claude Lacoursière; Bo Kåggström; Ander Klarbring; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Discrete mechanics; Variational method; Contact problems; Impacts; Least action principle; Saddle point problems; Lagrange Multipliers; Constrained systems; Multibody Systems; Numerical regularization; Constraint realization; Constraint stabilization; Dry friction; Differential Algebraic Equations; Nonsmooth problems; Linear Complementarity; Quaternion algebra; Numerical linear algebra; Physics modeling; Interactive simulation; Numerical stability; Rigid body dynamics; Dissipative systems; Computational physics; Beräkningsfysik;

    Sammanfattning : A time-discrete formulation of the variational principle of mechanics is used to provide a consistent theoretical framework for the construction and analysis of low order integration methods. These are applied to mechanical systems subject to mixed constraints and dry frictional contacts and impacts---machines. LÄS MER

  2. 7. Essays on Social Comparison

    Författare :Fredrik W. Andersson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Marginal degree of positionality; relative consumption; marginal propensity to consume; self-reported current happiness; self-reported expected future happiness; relative academic performance; comparison wage; permanent income consumers; current income consumers; rule of thumb consumers; aggregation bias; sick listing; social norms;

    Sammanfattning : Paper 1: By using hypothetical choice experiments, this paper presents evidence that individuals’ concern for relative consumption depends on their relative consumption. Individuals with consumption levels above society’s average consumption level tend to have, in general, lower concern for relative consumption. LÄS MER

  3. 8. Numerical Simulation of Some Heat Transfer and Fluid Flow Phenomena for Gas Turbine Blades and a Transonic Turbine Stage

    Författare :Fadil Mumic; Värmeöverföring; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; fluiddynamik; plasma; Thermal engineering; applied thermodynamics; plasmas; Gaser; fluid dynamics; Gases; transonic; numerical; heat transfer coefficient; shroud surface; squealer blade tip; flat blade tip; leakage flow; Termisk teknik; termodynamik; turbulence modeling;

    Sammanfattning : With the attempts to achieve higher thermal efficiency, turbine blades are exposed to very high temperature gases and may undergo severe thermal stress and fatigue. Thus, in order to develop optimal cooling strategies and reduce the heat transfer it is important to obtain a good understanding of both the complex flow field and the heat transfer characteristics in turbine rotor/stator hot-gas passages. 4. 9. Terrain Modelling with GIS for Tectonic Geomorphology : Numerical Methods and Applications

    Författare :Gyözö Jordan; Ulf Qvarfort; Tsehaie Woldai; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Environmental technology; digital elevation model; digital terrain modelling; GIS; morphometry; tectonic geomorphology; Miljöteknik; Environmental engineering; Miljöteknik;

    Sammanfattning : Analysis of digital elevation models (DEMs) by means of geomorphometry provides means of recognising fractures and characterising the morphotectonics of an area in a quantitative way. The objective of the thesis is to develop numerical methods and a consistent GIS methodology for tectonic geomorphology and apply it to test sites. LÄS MER

  5. 10. Residual and Solubility trapping during Geological CO2 storage : Numerical and Experimental studies

    Författare :Maria Rasmusson; Fritjof Fagerlund; Auli Niemi; Jonathan Ennis-King; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; capillary trapping; CCS; convective flow; CO2; light transmission; SO2; well test; Hydrology; Hydrologi;

    Sammanfattning : Geological storage of carbon dioxide (CO2) in deep saline aquifers mitigates atmospheric release of greenhouse gases. To estimate storage capacity and evaluate storage safety, knowledge of the trapping mechanisms that retain CO2 within geological formations, and the factors affecting these is fundamental. LÄS MER
