6. Actin and myosin in transcriptional and post-transcriptional control of gene expression
Sammanfattning : Actin plays a key role in basal gene regulation. In the past decade actin has been found to be a component of chromatin remodeling complexes, ribonucleoprotein particles and to associate with all eukaryotic RNA polymerases. LÄS MER
7. On the role of the fusion protein DEK-NUP214 in leukemogenesis
Sammanfattning : The t(6;9) translocation is found in a subset of patients with acute myeloid leukemia (AML) and is associated with a poor prognosis. The translocation results in the formation of the DEK-NUP214 fusion protein containing almost the entire nuclear protein DEK and two thirds of the nucleoporin NUP214. LÄS MER
8. Dynamic aspects of nucleocytoplasmic trafficking
Sammanfattning : Cellular structures and compartmentalization is the result of a dynamic steady state exchange between its components. This thesis is focused in investigations of dynamic properties of green fluorescent protein (GFP)-labeled proteins in live cells using confocal laser microscopy in combination with bleaching techniques such as fluorescence recovery after photobleaching (FRAP) and fluorescence loss in photobleaching (FLIP). 9. Regulation of MYC transcription in 3D : implications for tumor development
Sammanfattning : This thesis uncovers how chromatin organization conspires with nuclear architecture and environmental stimuli in order to regulate gene expression in disease and particular, in cancer. In Paper I, we have unraveled a mechanism of oncogenesis, previously unknown in humans, and widely known as gene gating. LÄS MER
10. Transcription and transport of a messenger RNP particle : novel regulatory mechanisms
Sammanfattning : In all living cells gene expression is a central process that involves several steps, including transcription, processing, transport and translation. A fine-tuning of these events is a pre-requisite for proper cellular function. LÄS MER
