  1. 1. Studies of Nuclear Fuel by Means of Nuclear Spectroscopic Methods

    Författare :Peter Jansson; Roland Carchon; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Radiation sciences; irradiated nuclear fuel; nuclear spectroscopy; tomography; safeguard; Strålningsvetenskap; Radiation biology; Strålningsbiologi; Kärnfysik; Nuclear Physics;

    Sammanfattning : The increasing demand for characterization of nuclear fuel, both from an operator and authority point of view, motivates the development of new experimental and, preferable, non-destructive methods. In this thesis, some methods based on nuclear spectroscopic techniques are presented. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Quantum-state Selective Nuclear Decay Spectroscopy

    Författare :Ch. Lorenz; Kärnfysik; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; nuclear structure; alpha decay; beta decay; gamma rays; spectroscopy; Penning traps; shell-model calculations; Geant4 Monte Carlo Simulations;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis focusses on the results of two experiments employing Penning traps to prepare pure beams of the 213Ra ground state and 127Cd, which were then studied with the decay-spectroscopy setup TASISpec. The experiments were conducted with SHIPTRAP at the GSI Helmholtzzentrum für Schwerionenforschung in Darmstadt, Germany, and JYFLTRAP at the IGISOL Accelerator Facility at the University of Jyväskylä, Finland. 3. 3. Neutron Spectroscopy : Instrumentation and Methods for Fusion Plasmas

    Författare :Henrik Sjöstrand; Göran Ericsson; Johan Frenje; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Neutron spectroscopy; plasma diagnostics; fusion power; fusion; plasma heating; MPRu; JET; triton burn-up; ITER; neutron yield; calibration; Fusion; Fusion;

    Sammanfattning : When the heavy hydrogen isotopes deuterium (D) and tritium (T) undergo nuclear fusion large amounts of energy are released. At the Joint European Torus (JET) research is performed on how to harvest this energy. Two of the most important fusion reactions, d+d→3He+n (En = 2.5 MeV) and d+t→4He+n (En = 14 MeV), produce neutrons. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Applications of Gamma Ray Spectroscopy of Spent Nuclear Fuel for Safeguards and Encapsulation

    Författare :Christofer Willman; Ane Håkansson; Henrik Nylén; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Nuclear physics; gamma radiation; spectroscopy; spent nuclear fuel; safeguards; HRGS; MOX; Kärnfysik;

    Sammanfattning : Nuclear energy is currently one of the world’s main sources of electricity. Closely connected to the use of nuclear energy are important issues such as the nonproliferation of fissile material that may potentially used in nuclear weapons (safeguards), and the management of the highly radioactive nuclear waste.
