11. Ventilation of the Paranasal Sinuses. A study using the 133-Xenon Washout Technique
Sammanfattning : A noninvasive 133-xenon washout technique was used to evaluate the ventilation of the paranasal sinuses in healthy subjects and in patients with sinus disease. A mixture of air and 133-xenon is insufflated into the nasal cavities and passage into the sinuses is facilitated by a pressure increase created by letting the subjects inflate a balloon. LÄS MER
12. Olfactory Metacognition : A Metamemory Perspective on Odor Naming
Sammanfattning : Although many aspects of odor naming have received attention during the years, the participants' own cognitions (metamemory) about their naming attempts have not. (i) We showed that feeling of knowing (FOK) judgments accompanying odor naming failures are predictive of later recognition (Study I) or retrieval (Study III) of the missing name, but to a lesser degree than equivalent judgments about names of persons. 13. Studies on nitric oxide in the respiratory system
Sammanfattning : Nitric oxide (NO) is formed in biological tissues and has regulatory functions in many organ systems. Endogenous NO has been found in exhaled air and NO is considered to have effects on the pulmonary circulation and bronchial tone, and to be one of the mediators for the circulatory adaptation at birth. 14. Bioprocess monitoring of mammalian cell cultures using modern sensors
Sammanfattning : The need for better monitoring and control of mammalian cell cultures and the quality and safety control of products obtained from these processes is still high. In an attempt to enable better monitoring of the process and the glycosylation pattern of typical mammalian cell cultures two modem sensor methods were used on a chinese hamster ovary (CHO) cell culture producing the glycoprotein macrophage colony stimulating factor (M-CSF). 15. Odour recognition using electronic noses in robotic and intelligent systems
Sammanfattning : This thesis is about integrating the sense of smell into artificial intelligent systems. In order to endow such systems with olfaction, we use a device called an electronic nose or e-nose. LÄS MER
