17. Strategies for remediation of very large deposits of mine waste : the Aitik mine, Northern Sweden
Sammanfattning : The Aitik mine, near Gällivare in Sweden, is the largest copper mine in Europe with an annual production exceeding 18 Mt of ore. After processing of the ore the residual waste material, so called tailings, are deposited in a tailings pond. In addition, 15 - 25 Mt of barren waste rock is mined annually in order to provide access to the ore. LÄS MER
18. Sami lifestyle and health : epidemiological studies from northern Sweden
Sammanfattning : The aim of this PhD thesis was to expand the current knowledge of “traditional Sami” diet and lifestyle, and to test aspects of the Sami diet and lifestyle, specifically dietary pattern, macronutrient distribution and coffee consumption, in population-based epidemiological studies of mortality and incident cardiovascular disease and cancer in a general population.In Paper I, semi-structured interviews were conducted with 20 elderly Sami concerning their parent’s lifestyle and diet 50-70 years ago. Sammanfattning : Purpose An age-cohort was studied with long-term follow-up. The population was born in 1915, living in the municipality of Skellefteå in 1981. The purpose was to investigate the prevalence and incidence of pseudoexfoliation (PEX), its influence on intraocular pressure (IOP) and development of open-angle glaucoma (OAG). LÄS MER
20. Vegetation and climate during Weichselian ice free intervals in northern Sweden : Interpretations from fossil and modern pollen records
Sammanfattning : In this thesis the Weichselian history of northern Sweden is investigated, with emphasis on vegetation and climate during ice-free intervals. The main method used has been pollen analysis of sediments from pre-Late Weichselian landforms. To interpret fossil pollen assemblages, comparisons with modern pollen spectra were made. LÄS MER
