  1. 1. Modelling late toxicity in hypofractionated radiation therapy

    Författare :Niclas Pettersson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Hypofractionation; normal tissue complication probability; modelling; linear-quadratic model; fractionation sensitivity; late toxicity; radiation-induced rib fracture; genitourinary toxicity; stereotactic body radiation therapy; high-dose-rate brachytherapy; multimodality radiation therapy; patient-reported outcomes; prostate cancer; nsclc;

    Sammanfattning : In hypofractionated radiation therapy (RT), the treatment is delivered by few fractions with high doses per fraction. This is in contrast to conventionally fractionated RT where the total dose is delivered in many fractions with low doses per fraction. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Radiation therapy of upper gastrointestinal cancers with scanned proton beams : A treatment planning study

    Författare :Gracinda Mondlane; Albert Siegbahn; Michael Gubanski; Iuliana Toma-Dasu; Crister Ceberg; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Treatment planning; gastric cancer; liver metastases; photon beam therapy; proton beam therapy; dosimetric comparison; normal tissue complication probability; risk of radiation-induced secondary cancer; patient selection; Medical Radiation Physics; medicinsk strålningsfysik;

    Sammanfattning : Proton beam therapy (PBT), using scanned beams, is an emerging modality used for the treatment of cancer. The clinical advantages of PBT, compared to commonly used photon beam therapy, have been demonstrated in different studies. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Stereotactic body radiotherapy in non-small cell lung cancer

    Författare :Pia Baumann; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Stereotactic body radiotherapy; non-small cell lung cancer; chronic obstructive pulmonary disease; cardiovascular disease; normal tissue complication probability; pneumonitis; local tumour control; overall survival;

    Sammanfattning : Patients with stage I non small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) are potentially curable. Eradication of the primary tumour is a prerequisite for cure with surgery as standard treatment. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Determination and use of radiobiological response parameters in radiation therapy optimization

    Författare :Panayiotis Mavroidis; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Radiotherapy optimization; tumour control; normal tissue complications; radiobiological treatment planning; biological models; dose-response parameters;

    Sammanfattning : Optimization of radiation therapy is critically dependent on the use of patient related information. For this reason, radiobiological models describing the dependence of tumour and normal tissue responses on the irradiated volume and the dose-time-fractionation schedule should be introduced. 5. 5. Radiation Oncology Data and Modelling Side Effects after Radiation Therapy

    Författare :Caroline Olsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; dose and side effect data; dose-volume response; fractionation effect; LQ model; sequential two-phase radiotherapy; head and neck cancer; parotid gland; xerostomia; pelvic radiotherapy; gynecological cancer; pubic bone; pain; data integration; xerostomia;

    Sammanfattning : Although modern radiation therapy techniques have the ability to conform the dose distribution of ionizing radiation tightly around the volume to be treated, unwanted irradiation to surrounding organs remains a problem. The probability of a side effect arising in the normal tissue of a patient after radiation therapy can be modelled by sigmoid mathematical functions known as normal tissue complication probability (NTCP) models.
