21. Heterogeneity of human metabolism in health and disease: a modelling perspective
Sammanfattning : Metabolism is broadly defined as the sum of biochemical reactions within cells that are involved in maintaining the living state of the organism. Profound importance of metabolism comes from the fact that it is the sole source of energy that allows life to resist to be degraded into entropy. LÄS MER
22. Estrogen signaling in colon inflammation and colorectal cancer
Sammanfattning : Colorectal cancer (CRC) is the third most deadly form of cancer in the Western world. Although screening efforts have reduced the overall mortality, the incidence is increasing among young adults. LÄS MER
23. Risk factors for esophageal squamous cell carcinoma
Sammanfattning : Aims: The etiology of esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) in the high risk areas is largely unknown and a few environmental risk factors which have been identified do not explain its oddly high incidence in esophageal cancer belt. The aims of this thesis were to investigate the association of opium/tobacco consumption, serologic gastric atrophy, gastric mucosa-associated microbiota and contact with farm animals with the risk of ESCC. 24. Prognostic factors in endometrial cancer
Sammanfattning : Endometrial cancer (EC) is the most common malignancy of the female reproductive system in Sweden. Patients with EC generally have a good prognosis, though some face recurrence and have a lower survival rate despite treatment. Current prognostic factors for EC are still not able to accurately reflect disease prognosis. LÄS MER
25. Microbial regulation of PPARgamma : nuclear receptor networks important for colonic homeostasis
Sammanfattning : One of the central issues surrounding the physiology of good health is to uncover and understand the molecular networks responsible for its maintenance. The alimentary tract in particular, demands a properly sustained homeostatic control since it is constantly challenged by potentially harmful agents along with innocuous nutrients, with the burden of basic metabolic functions in its ward.
