11. Electromechanical Phenomena in Superconducting and Normal Nanostructures
Sammanfattning : This thesis summarizes a series of theoretical studies on the electromechanical properties of nanostructures made of superconducting and/or metallic elements. The first part of the work is devoted to the analysis of the interactions between the electronic and mechanical degrees of freedom in suspended nanowires. LÄS MER
12. Ready to pull : force transmission during vascular development
Sammanfattning : The transmission of mechanical forces controls a multitude of cellular processes such as migration, the formation of new organs, muscle contraction, and resistance to the continuous stress that blood flow exerts on the blood vessel wall. These forces are sensed and replayed at the sites of cellular adhesion to the basal membrane as well as cell-cell junctions, where protein complexes connect to the cellular cytoskeleton to relay force into the cell. 13. Machining properties of wood : Tool wear, cutting force and tensioning of blades
Sammanfattning : Cutting processes, in general, and wood cutting processes, in particular, are complex to explain and describe with many influencing factors. Wood, in contrast to man-made fabricated materials, is not a homogenous and distinct material, but a multifaceted and nonhomogeneous biological material. LÄS MER
14. Sensorimotor Brain Plasticity in Stroke Patients with Dysphagia : A Methodological Study on Investigation and Treatment
Sammanfattning : AimsThe aims of the thesis were to validate investigation instruments for stroke patients with dysphagia, and to improve oropharyngeal dysphagia therapies.Methods/ResultsA Lip Force Meter, LF 100, affirmed excellent intra- and inter-reliability, sensitivity and specificity. LÄS MER
15. Existence theorems for noncoercive incremental contact problems with Coulomb friction
Sammanfattning : Friction is a phenomenon which is present in most mechanical devices and frequently encountered in everyday life. In particular, understanding of this phenomenon is important in the modelling of contact between an elastic object and an obstacle. LÄS MER
