  1. 1. Roller skis' rolling resistance and grip characteristics : influences on physiological and performance measures in cross-country skiers

    Författare :Mats Ainegren; Peter Carlsson; Marko Laaksonen; Mittuniversitetet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Adjustable grip; blood lactate; centre of pressure; cycle length; cycle rate; economy; efficiency; friction coefficient; heart rate; normal force; OBLA; oxygen uptake; power; ratcheted wheel; ratings of perceived exertion; roller skis; rolling resistance; tangential force; time to exhaustion;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis was to investigate roller ski characteristics; classical and freestyle roller skis’ rolling resistance coefficients (μR) and classical style roller skis’ static friction coefficients (μS), and to study the influence of different μR and μS on cross-country skiers’ performance and both physiological and biomechanical indices. The aim was also to study differences in skiing economy and efficiency between recreational skiers, female and male junior and senior elite cross-country skiers. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Investigating nano-scale viscous and elastic forces withintermodulation : Studies in multifrequency atomic force microscopy

    Författare :Per-Anders Thorén; David B. Haviland; Greg Haugstad; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Atomic Force Microscopy; Nonlinear dynamics; Soft materials; High- speed friction measurements; Modeling and numerical simulations; Fysik; Physics;

    Sammanfattning : Investigating visco-elastic forces at the nanometer-scale is important to thecharacterization of soft materials. A quantitative force measurement can be ob-tained using an atomic force microscope (AFM) with a calibrated force transducer(the AFM cantilever). LÄS MER

  3. 3. Biomechanical studies of finger extension function. Analysis with a new force measuring device and ultrasound examination in rheumatoid arthritis and healhty muscles

    Författare :Sofia Brorsson; Elena Gutierrez Farewik; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Grip force; finger extension force; ultrasound; hand exercise; rheumatoid arthritis; muscle architecture; GAT; DASH; SF-36; Muscles;

    Sammanfattning : Aims: The overall aim of this thesis was to further our understanding of extensor muscles and their role for hand function. The aims of the studies were: To develop and evaluate a new device for finger extensor force measurements. To evaluate ultrasound as a tool for assessment of muscle architecture. LÄS MER

  4. 4. The dis/appearances of violence : When a 'peace-loving' state uses force

    Författare :Tua Sandman; Ulrika Mörth; Cecilia Åse; Martin Hall; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Sweden; peace-enforcement; use of force; representation of violence; narrative structuration; identity and foreign policy; de politicisation; dislocation; in visibility; critical war studies; statsvetenskap; Political Science;

    Sammanfattning : The research problem that this dissertation addresses is how and with what implications the use of force in ‘distant’ places is made seen and known at home. As practices change and ‘peacework’ is becoming increasingly violent, the book argues that it is imperative to examine how war ‘comes home’ and to what extent the narratives emerging in public discourse open up for public reflection and (re)consideration. 5. 5. Quantifying human balance : Analysis of force plate data

    Författare :Annica Önell; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Systems engineering; Systemteknik; Systemanalys; Systems Analysis;

    Sammanfattning : There is a lack of reliable methods for assessment of balance suited for routine use in clinical settings. The thesis focuses on analysis of force plate data for evaluation of balance during normal, unperturbed standing and sitting. Some commonly used force plate based methods during unperturbed standing are presented. LÄS MER
