1. Blow-ups and normal bundles in derived algebraic geometry and beyond
Sammanfattning : The main part of this thesis, Part II, consists of four papers. A summary and background is provided in Part I.Paper A introduces blow-ups of derived schemes in arbitrary centers, which is a generalization of the quasi-smooth case from [KR19]. LÄS MER
2. Reverse structural biology: Cellular processes uncovered by electron microscopy
Sammanfattning : This thesis contains two projects, both using electron microscopy as the primary technique. In the first project, nuclear envelope budding (NEB) is investigated as an alternate method of transport across the nuclear envelope. LÄS MER
3. Modeling of the wet-out process in composites manufacturing
Sammanfattning : The fiber reinforced polymer composites (FRPCs) are carving out a niche amid the keen market competition to replace the other material counterparts, e.g., metals. Due to the low weight and corrosion resistance, the FRPCs are wildly utilized from aviation to automobile industries; both in the sectors of civilian and defense. LÄS MER
4. MUSCLE TONE IMBALANCE IN HUMAN UPPER EXTREMITY An experimental study of muscle adaptation to altered tension
Sammanfattning : Aim: The aim of this thesis was to improve outcome after tendon transfer and rotator cuff surgery by investigating the impact on response to passive mechanical testing and change in structural characteristics associated with longstanding changes in the tension of skeletal muscle in the human upper extremities in vivo. Patients and methods: The investigational method was in vitro assessment of human upper extremity muscles. LÄS MER
5. Manifold learning and representations for image analysis and visualization
Sammanfattning : We present a novel method for manifold learning, i.e. identification of the low-dimensional manifold-like structure present in a set of data points in a possibly high-dimensional space. The main idea is derived from the concept of Riemannian normal coordinates. LÄS MER
